It’s officially one of the most exciting times of the year—MedSoc Spring Elections are here! 🎉
We are now opening nominations for six leadership positions, and this is an incredible opportunity to get involved, help shape the student experience, and make a meaningful impact within MedSoc.
Nominations open today, April 9 at 12:00 PM and will remain open until Sunday, April 19 at 5:00 PM. Please note that this is a firm deadline, and late applications will not be accepted unless otherwise stated.
As part of the nomination process, each nominee must also submit a short blurb (typically less than 250 words) describing why they would be a great fit for the role. Please send your blurb by email to [email protected]. All blurbs will be posted for students to review once nominations close.
All candidates are also expected to prepare a speech. Virtual speeches will take place on Tuesday, April 21 at 7:00 PM. Pre-recorded speeches will only be permitted under special circumstances.
Please note that any nominated candidate who does not provide a speech will not be given a place on the ballot.
Voting will open shortly after speeches conclude and will remain open until Sunday, May 10, at 12PM with results announced at the AGM on May 12.
If you’ve been thinking about getting involved, this is your moment. We strongly encourage anyone interested in leadership, advocacy, and strengthening our medical student community to put their name forward.
We can’t wait to see this year’s incredible group of candidates!

Check out this wellness program launched by the Dalhousie University Department of Psychiatry! More information can be found below ⬇️
What is Wellness4MDs?
Wellness4MDs is a bilingual, evidence-based, cost-effective program that supports the mental health of physicians, postgraduate medical trainees, and medical students in Canada using daily supportive text messages. Text messages in English or French will be delivered to anonymous subscribers for six months at no cost.
How to subscribe:
Physicians, residents, and medical students in Canada can subscribe to the program by texting “WELLMD” for access in English or “BIENMD” for access in French to 1-855-947-4673. Subscribers can opt in to participate in the program evaluation by completing surveys when they begin the program and at designated follow-up times.
How it works:
Subscribers will have access to the program for six months throughout which they will be asked to complete voluntary surveys so researchers can measure the program’s effectiveness. Subscribers will continue to receive the daily supportive text messages whether they participate in the surveys or not. After six months, participants can resubscribe to continue receiving the text messages.
Text messages are based on cognitive behavioural therapy principles and were developed by psychiatrists, mental health therapists, clinical psychologists, and mental health service users.
What is the goal?
The program aims to significantly reduce levels of stress, anxiety, burnout, and depression among physicians, residents, and medical students in Canada.
Why was Wellness4MDs developed?
Physicians experience high levels of burnout, anxiety, and depression and many may not seek out care because they are too busy or are reluctant due to lingering stigma around mental health issues. With increasing levels of these symptoms negatively impacting the healthcare workforce, the need to support physician mental health and well-being is great.

IMPORTANT INFO FOR INTEREST GROUPS: To help streamline the process for requesting MedSoc funding for interest group events, we will now only be reviewing requests that are submitted through the following Google Form: https://forms.gle/ZTdtD34Z2XR6Fzd38
Please note that MedSoc funding is intended to support:
• The purchase of tools or equipment that enhance your events (e.g., suture kits, demonstration models, simulation supplies, etc...), and/or
• A token of appreciation for guest speakers (e.g., gift cards), and/or
• A student award in case of a student competition (i.e. gift card).
We kindly ask that you avoid using these funds for food purchases (i.e. pizza). While food has commonly been funded in the past, we are hoping to shift the purpose of this fund toward more sustainable and educational resources that will benefit interest groups long-term.
We truly appreciate your collaboration as we work to make the most meaningful use of these funds. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
