Both our Preschool and Toddler programs have been exploring the hands-on experience of peeling tape! Rolls of tape were presented to the children, and educators and children worked together to place strips of tape onto the table. The children then carefully peeled the tape off and rolled the strips into little balls.

While this may seem like a simple experience, peeling and manipulating tape provides opportunities to strengthen fine motor skills, finger dexterity, hand strength, and hand-eye coordination. These skills are important foundations for children’s growing independence in everyday tasks such as eating and self-care, as well as early writing and drawing.

Building on the children's interest in Korean Lunar New Year, the Toddler 1 program explored a modified version of the traditional Korean game Jegichagi! Using paper plates and a jegi (shuttlecock), children practiced tossing, catching, balancing, and coordinating their movements.

Throughout this experience, children demonstrated persistence, excitement, and teamwork as they cheered on their peers and took turns. Experiences like these support the development of gross motor skills, hand-eye coordination, early numeracy, and social skills, while also providing opportunities to learn about and appreciate the cultures around us.

The Toddler 2 program explored some bean seeds, discovering their shape, size, and texture. Together they placed them inside a bag with wet paper towels and taped it to a window in their room. Over the coming weeks children will observe the growth and life cycle of a bean with the hope to transplant these seedlings into their garden outside. We can't wait to see our seeds sprout!

The Preschool 1 children have been engaging in play surrounding ice cream; creating ice cream stands to sell, building ice cream cone stacks, while also making their own homemade ice cream. The children engaged with materials (tissue paper and paper cones) to further explore ice cream play. They scrunched up pieces of tissue paper and pretended it was ice cream. The various colours of tissue paper took on different flavours: red was strawberry, green was lime, blue was blueberry, white was vanilla, brown was chocolate and pink was watermelon. Another group of children pretended the tissue paper was cotton candy and began selling it to their peers.

A light table was introduced as a provocation for exploring colour, light, and reflection. Children engaged with translucent shells and small dinosaurs, sorting and grouping them by colour and type, demonstrating early math skills (spatial awareness, measurement, and patterning). As they explored, children discovered how shadows are created, using their hands to investigate how shadow size changes depending on distance from the light. This hands-on inquiry supported their understanding of cause and effect and early science concepts.

We are celebrating a milestone with Amanda as she has been a dedicated educator at the centre for 10 years.

We would like to recognize and thank Amanda for a decade of dedication, compassion and commitment to the children, families and the centre as a whole. Over the years, she has built meaningful relationships with children, families and educators.
Her passion for early learning shines through in everything she does.

Thank you for the countless ways you have helped our centre grow over the past 10 years. Your professionalism and dedication do not go unnoticed and we are so grateful to have you as part of our team.

Congratulations on this amazing milestone.

The addition of a new table stand in the Preschool 2 program became a meaningful hands-on learning experience. Educators invited the children to participate in building the table, following the instruction booklet together. As they laid out the pieces and worked through each step, children practiced sequencing, problem-solving, and collaboration. With each stage of the build, their confidence grew, and they expressed a strong sense of pride and accomplishment in completing the project together.

Educators observed toddlers engaging in dumping and stacking play. In response, a provocation with natural loose parts and animal figures was introduced to extend this interest.

Children explored filling and emptying as they used rocks as “food,” placing them into bowls and dumping them out again (problem solving and innovating and mathematics: exploring quantity).

One child created a farm, using blocks for structures and sticks as a roof, demonstrating symbolic and imaginative play. Wooden arches became bridges as children balanced animals and explored movement across them, supporting spatial awareness and coordination.

Children re-enacting The Floor Is Lava by using cups, popsicle sticks, and toy bears. They planned, tested and adjusted their structures to help the bears cross safely without touching the “lava.” This hands-on experience encouraged critical thinking, creativity and collaboration while strengthening fine motor skills and early STEM learning.
