Just a quick update on what’s going on at the PWRC this summer. We are currently rehabilitating 13 mallard ducklings, Western Painted Turtle, House Sparrow, 4 Red foxes and 2 Coyotes. These patients will be in care for at least another month or two.

Our carnivore patients, the foxes and coyotes eat a lot of meat so we are looking for donations of freezer burnt chicken and wild meat (especially deer meat). If you have any to donate please leave us a message at 204-510-1855 and we will arrange a drop off location or pick up.

For the past 19 years, We have been running PWRC as a volunteer based charity. Over the last 15 years, we have admitted and rehabilitated more than 2,000 animals annually.

As you know, every year brings new challenges and changes related to volunteers, funding, donations, politics, staffing, and the increasing costs of wildlife rehabilitation, including food, medical care, and facility maintenance. After much consideration, we have made the difficult decision to begin winding down the organization.

This summer will be our final operating season. Effective Thursday, June 4th, we will no longer be admitting new wildlife patients. If you come across an injured and orphaned wildlife, please contact :

Our focus will be on completing the rehabilitation of the animals currently in our care at the St. Adolphe site. We will continue to rely on community support to care for the wildlife patients still in our care—especially the four fox kits, who require a specialized diet to grow and thrive. Their expected release will be in August/September.

Every donation helps ensure these young animals receive the proper nutrition and care they need for a successful return to the wild. Thank you for being part of their journey.

This has been an incredibly difficult decision, but we are proud of the work we have done and the effort we have made to help injured and orphaned wildlife over the years.

We would like to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you to Pembina Veterinary Hospital and Winnipeg Emergency Veterinary Clinic for nearly 20 years of dedicated support as a trusted wildlife drop-off location for PWRC.

Because of your compassion and commitment, thousands of animals have received a second chance at life through our doors. Your long-standing partnership has made an incredible impact on wildlife in our community, and we are truly grateful.

FOX KIT UPDATE:

The baby fox kits are getting use to their new environment without their Momma. Although they have a long road ahead of them to be ready for release, the fox kits are growing well and enjoying their time together.

A Heartbreaking story to share - and how you can help!

This Mother’s Day, while many mothers were surrounded by their babies, four tiny fox kits spent the day alone… crying out for a mom who never came home. 🦊💔

For over 24 hours, caring finders waited and watched, hoping their mother would return. They tried every trick possible to reunite this little family. But as the hours passed, it became clear these babies needed help.

With no mom to be found, the fox kit's came into our care. These babies will need around-the-clock feedings, warmth, medical care, and a safe place to grow strong enough to one day return to the wild where they belong.

We are asking on donations to help keep these fox kits fed and safe. Every dollar makes an incredible difference. All donations raised will go directly to the care of the foxes.
