Did you know that the Squamish Welcome Centre has a support program for folks who are a part of the temporary foreign worker program? Are you living or working in Squamish with a work permit, maintained status, or have you lost your status? This program is for you - and it’s TOTALLY FREE!

Life with a work permit comes with unique challenges and uncertainties. That’s why this program exists. We’re here to help you navigate those difficulties with dignity and respect. One of the ways we help is by sitting down with you for a one-on-one appointment. These appointments are confidential.

Appointments are free and offered by our Support Coordinator Zulma Reina. You can talk about topics that are important to you, like adjusting to life in Canada, questions about your work permit or job, accessing health care and MSP, life at work or at home, emergencies and other challenges, and more.

Book an appointment by calling or emailing us, ask for Zulma!

EXCITING NEWS - We got the grant! 🎉

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have received the New Horizons Grant from the Government of Canada to launch our new Digital Empowerment Project this Spring!

In an increasingly online world, the digital divide can lead to social isolation for many older adults, especially newcomer and immigrant seniors. Building on the success of our Digital Divide Project, this new initiative is designed specifically for seniors (55+) to help them build tech confidence, access essential services, education on scam and fraud identification, and stay connected with loved ones.

Here is what the program will bring to our community:
- Participants will receive refurbished laptops to during the program.
- Classes will be taught by our expert senior peer mentor, Dr. Madelaine Befus, creating a safe, patient, and empowering environment.
- Volunteer “tech buddies” will partner with senior learners for practice, building connections across generations.

Our goal is to empower at least 12 local seniors to thrive in the digital age while building a more inclusive and resilient community for all.

Stay tuned for more details this Spring on how to participate or volunteer as a tech buddy! 🌟 Email us at [email protected] to learn more on how to become a tech buddy.
