Congratulations to CMA Alumni Ayla Dumais, Class of ‘23, who has been nominated as the Conservative Party of BC candidate for West Vancouver–Sea to Sky.

Ayla is still the only CMA student who connected with our admissions team herself (not a parent) to initiate the application process and book her own interview. All at the ripe old age of 13.

Since graduating from CMA, Ayla has split her time between university and her current job working in the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition as a policy and stakeholder relations advisor.

We always knew that Ayla was destined for great things, and she is wasting no time in getting started.

Squamish Helping Hands is running their annual Socktober fundraiser. Last year was an huge success thanks to schools and businesses around our community - 2,100 pairs of warm, dry socks were donated and then given to members of our community experiencing homelessness.

Did you know that socks are a commonly overlooked, but critically important item?
A recent study by Wounds Canada found that 2/3 of individuals experiencing homelessness reported having an issue with their feet. For people sheltering outside, clean, dry socks prevent dangerous infections and serious foot health problems. On top of that, having a reliable pair of socks provides people with a sense of normalcy and comfort. Understanding the need for socks is a great gateway to understanding, and supporting the needs of our community.

CMA will be collecting new socks for donation throughout the month of October. Look for the donation box in the office area of campus near Ms. Keeling's office.

What better way to bond with your all your new classmates than to head off into the backcountry for an adventure together!
This group of grade 8 students, along with their teachers and guides went hiking for 3 days, enjoyed incredible vistas, played fun hut games, and ate yummy food.

CMA's grade 7 students along with their teachers and guides had an amazing time at Alice Lake campground this week hiking and camping as a group for the first time.
They learned how to set up and care for their own tents, how to safely use and share a camp stove, how to support and care for themselves and the environment while outdoors, and had a whole heck of a lot of fun!

Another group of CMA students and teachers left today for a 3 day adventure. Today this crew will gain 618 m as they hike approximately 7.5 km through subalpine forest in the Marriott Basin. A warm hut awaits!
The weather of this region can change quickly so students will be paying close attention to their clothing systems, and are well equipped with adequate gear and warm layers. Their next few days will include some rewarding day hikes, and a lot of community building, yummy snacks, and teamwork.

Big day here on campus - the first LEAD departure day of the year for our grade 7 and 8 students. The sun is shinning and these students are ready to hit the trails and set up camp for the next 3 days.
Our newest students will experience familiar territory from a new perspective. Teachers and guides on this trip will focus on building student confidence in the outdoors and practicing the foundational skills needed to thrive on future LEAD trips.
With a bit more experience and practical knowledge, our grade 8 students are heading into the backcountry with their teachers and guides. The learning objectives get more complex with this cohort as they focus on group camaraderie, hiking skills, efficient packing techniques, backcountry nutrition, and teamwork.
