We help Mountain Bikers gain confidence and have more fun via our lessons and courses in Squamish, BC

My name is Jake Johnstone and I created The Mind Mountain to combine my passions for Mountain Biking, Coaching, and Mindset. Originally from Australia, I was inspired by the laid-back mountain sports scene I experienced while working in New Zealand. This fueled my lifelong passion for adventure and spurred the move to BC in search of a bigger playground. As a self-confessed mountain sports addict,

Done with cookie-cutter lessons and one size fits all progressions?

Come experience the magic of our Full Circle Framework, where we dial in each performance factor one by one - technical skills, mental strategies, physical capacity, and equipment setup - to create measurable, lasting progress on the bike.

Expect personalized feedback, video analysis, purposeful drills, and plenty of trail application time focused entirely on your goals, your riding style, and the challenges that matter most to you.

Whether you’re looking to overcome a mental block, build confidence on technical terrain, or simply ride with more control and consistency, we’ll create a coaching experience that’s tailored specifically to you.

Private lessons are now booking for July and the rest of summer.

Let’s ride. 🤘

This is what six months in our Full Circle Coaching Program looks like.

Chad, a rider from the East Coast of the USA, joined us over winter, dove deep into the mental performance resources inside our online portal, and has been putting in the work through our Remote Coaching Platform to refine his technique.

Now? We’re less than a month out from his trip to Squamish and the in-person, 1-on-1 coaching component of the program, and he’s already riding stronger and with more confidence than ever before. Not bad for someone with 30+ years of riding experience already under his belt.

The coolest part? He’s so fired up on his progress that he’s now building his own practice lines to prepare physically, mentally, and technically for the challenges ahead.

Full Circle is open to riders from around the world who are willing to travel to Squamish, BC or Derby, Tasmania for the one-on-one coaching component.

Keep doing the work, Chad, and we’ll see you in July 🤙🔥

One of the things that makes NZ so special? The variety. One day you're riding volcanic rock above the clouds, 24 hours later you're flowing through native beech forest.

This clip comes from our newly released episode with Lewis Brindley, founder of .bike and one of the guides joining us on our NZ MTB Expedition with Adventure South NZ

If New Zealand's South Island is on your bucket list, this episode is for you.

Chasing down the infamous “Kookaburra Rock” on Cuddles, a trail built for the 2023 Enduro World Series, then dropping straight into the ferny, bermy bliss of Turbo-chook.

And if that wasn’t enough… finishing it off with a floating woodfired sauna on Lake Derby afterwards 🤝

Ever notice how your riding changes depending on how you think about it?

I recently wrote an article about how to re-wire your brain to work with you, not against you, on the bike.

Inspired by an interview with neuroscientist Dr. Tommy Wood and years of coaching riders, it’s all about the small mental shifts that shape confidence, progression, and how you approach challenging trails.

Our brains are constantly looking for evidence to support what we believe. And after a concussion, when symptoms are unpredictable and isolating, those narratives can get really loud.

In this conversation with Cait Leavitt, we talk about how recovery is often deeper than simply “thinking positive” or trying to force a mindset shift.

Sometimes healing looks like:
- reconnecting with people who understand
- finding safety in your body again
- learning practical tools instead of just waiting it out
- creating new evidence that recovery is possible

One thing we loved about Cait’s approach is how grounded and actionable it feels. Not just theory. Real things you can actually practice.

Cait's blog post, “6 Skills That Helped Me Heal Through Post-Concussion Syndrome,” is linked in the show notes for anyone wanting to dive deeper.

Today we’re riding Hot Tuna in Squamish, one of our favourite trails with loads of optional lines, gaps, and features that really reward looking ahead and scanning the trail.

Ever have one of those days where everything on the bike feels easy… and then another where even familiar features suddenly feel impossible?

I wrote a recent article on how our stress threshold shifts from day to day and how things like sleep, life stress, fatigue, and mental load can completely change how a trail feels, AND what we CAN DO to adjust our physiological state once we have this awareness.
