Our 3s worked together to make applesauce muffins last week! As we cooked, we sampled the applesauce and smelled the cinnamon. Kiddos took turns adding ingredients, helping to stir, and scooping batter into the muffin pan. The best part was enjoying our muffins for snack time. One of our smallest students packed back four mini muffins! 🍎🍏

We made delicious apple pies last week! 🍎🥧

This was a great activity to learn some of our art procedures at the start of our preschool year. Kiddos learned how to put paint shirts on and "pinch" their paintbrushes. They also practised opening and turning up glue sticks, using their helper hand to hold the paper while they glue, and putting the lid back on. So many little skills in a simple craft!

We've been learning about apples! 🍎🍏

Last week, our 4s made apples using long strips of paper and metal brads. Kiddos were so persistent poking the brad through the paper, and they were so proud to show their creations to their parents!

Memory Monday...

We love investigating sunflowers every fall! Kiddos have an opportunity to use gardening gloves, magnifying glasses, and tweezers to examine fresh and dried sunflowers. This is a great opportunity to learn about the parts of a plant. 🌻

Of course our sunflower investigation always turns into a ladybug hunt too, encouraging kiddos to build visual motor skills and focus while they hunt for the tiny creatures. Holding insects takes bravery, and sharing the bugs around builds positive interpersonal skills. 🐞

So much learning in such a simple activity!

Memory Monday...

One of our favourite sensory bins this year was an Olympic-themed bin! We used salt and coloured chickpeas for the base, then added plastic ice cubes, snowflakes, maple leaves, and red letters. Gold and silver cups, mini colanders, tongs, and scoops were the perfect tools to finish off our bin.

Of course sensory bins offer amazing sensory play for children, but there was so much more learning to come from this bin too:
💡Communication: sharing materials, sharing ideas
💡Literacy: letter identification, early spelling
💡Numeracy: sorting, size, counting, capacity
💡Science: properties of materials
💡Fine Motor: manipulating tools, picking up small pieces..and more!

Happy Father's Day to all of our Little Lightbulbs dads, grandpas, uncles, and more! 💛

Our 4s had the opportunity to try wet felting with our friend Rae Daynes. They created scrubby soaps for their dads. First little ones pulled and layered tufts of wool to build nests for their bars of soap. Then they wrapped up the soap like a present, put it in a nylon sock, and dipped it in water. As kiddos scrubbed the sock in their hands and on bubble wrap, the wool felted together around the soap!
