Spirit River Regional Academy

This year, we have had the privilege of learning about the wisdom and teachings of Canada's Indigenous groups, thanks to Ms. Sheila Payeur from the PWPSD Indigenous Education team. She has visited several elementary classrooms to read books and engage in learning activities with us and we look forward to more visits in the future.

With Mrs. Payeur, the Grade 2/3 class has covered Science topics in the unit on Matter to learn about how Indigenous people use natural materials. We also learned about the “Winter Count” in Math class and even created our own winter counts. In Social Studies we learned about Ribbon skirts and shirts and how symbols represent unique cultural beliefs and practices.

SRRA is cheering on Kamryn Bissell, who is playing for Team Alberta North's U19 Female Hockey Team at the Artctic Winter Games. The team is currently 3-0 with their last round-robin game this afternoon. Kamryn was captain in their first game and has a goal and two assists so far! Way to go Kamryn!
