Wednesday, September 30th, is Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. In Sooke, this is a day to come together to honour Residential School Survivors, their families, and communities, and to recognize the ongoing impacts of residential schools.

The Healing Walk begins at 12:00 noon across from the Sooke Region Museum. Participants will walk to Edward Milne Community School (EMCS), where there will be cultural performances, Indigenous vendors, community connections, and food trucks. This is a time for reflection, learning, remembrance, and reconciliation.

🌲What a beautiful film. In 19 powerful minutes, Kinfolk brings together environmental thinker and activist Vandana Shiva and Swedish artist, poet and forest restorer Maria Westerberg – two women who have never met, yet whose work echoes across continents.
A film about ecological restoration, creativity and the possibility of making change through the relationships and places closest to us. To quote Vandana Shiva, “the forest teaches us democracy, the monoculture teaches us intolerance.”

"Kinfolk" brings together environmental thinker and activist Vandana Shiva and Swedish artist, poet and forest restorer Maria Westerberg – two women who have never met, yet whose work echoes across continents.

A film about ecological restoration, creativity and the possibility of making change through the relationships and places closest to us.

In short: a film about activism.

Sign our petition at this link to support the creation of this forest as a permanent park … a legacy for the future! This forest type is only 0.05 percent of BC’s land base. Temperate rainforest is only 1 percent of the planet’s land base. This is the last remaining oceanfront temperate rainforest in Sooke, BC, Canada, “where the rainforest meets the sea.”
