Sometimes, children just need to get their hands dirty. More like, all the time. And the research backs it up. Time in nature is actually essential for development.

~ Builds stronger sensory processing and motor skills
~ Increases creativity and independent thinking
~ Reduces stress and improves emotional regulation

At Acton, we are big on getting children outdoors and giving them plenty of unstructured play time. This might mean more laundry for you, but it's well worth it.

What you get in return is joy, creativity, confidence, and a child who loves going to school.

Here's something most schools won't say out loud: high grades is becoming less of a guarantee than it used to be. That's not a knock on hard work. It's just reality.

Many of the jobs our children will have don't even exist yet. And the ones that do are being reshaped by AI faster than any curriculum can keep up. What actually matters now is the ability to think for yourself when there's no answer key.

Young adults also need the confidence to pitch an idea, defend it, and adjust when you're wrong. Most importantly, they need the resilience to fail at something and try again anyway. These aren't things you can test on a multiple choice exam. Yet, they're exactly the things that will determine whether a child thrives in 10, 20, 30 years.

At Acton, this is the whole point. We are not just preparing children for college and university, but preparing them for a life that's meaningful, self-directed, and built on who they actually are.

If you've been quietly questioning whether traditional school is really enough, you're not alone.

Homeschool can be an incredible option, but it's not always accessible to every family--whether it's a matter of time or capacity. We completely appreciate that.

But you don't have to choose between homeschooling or traditional school. Acton shares so many of the values of the homeschooling community, including joy, curiosity, love of learning, resilience, independence, passion, and critical thinking.

Many of our families come to us because they want an option that is similar to homeschooling, but not exactly that. If this sounds like you, give us a follow or send us a DM if you have more questions.

We want our children to become empowered adults who can make decisions that are right for them. But we never give them practice on how to do that!

It's not a skill that a child can turn on and off. This needs to be nurtured and we do that every day, by giving students the ability to make decisions for themselves, within guardrails.

And I know you may not believe this--but once that love of learning is built, they truly make great decisions!
