Speed is a wonderful thing in combat sports - but in Jiu Jitsu when you’ve got a secure finishing position it’s generally preferable to slow things down rather than speed them up. Beating your opponent’s reaction time is no longer an issue in these positions. It’s more about preventing movement. Look to immobilize and block rather than race the finish line. Not only is this safer for your training partner but more effective insofar as excessive movement is the single most common reason submission holds fail. So next time the end is near - slow things down. Take stock of the situation and plan through your finish - you’ll generally be pleased with the results
