Nature's Calling Environmental Education We connect youth and families with nature & the outdoors, and nurture healthy minds and bodies.

Author Richard Louv, in his ground-breaking book Last Child in the Woods, coined the term ‘nature deficit disorder’, which he used to describe the lack of nature in the lives of today’s wired generation. The books message is simple – kids (and adults) that spend time outside tend to be healthier and happier. We support this philosophy and are dedicated to providing opportunities for our community to enjoy nature through outdoor activities and learning. We do this by:
Providing educational and outreach activities for children and families to foster an appreciation of, and respect for, nature and the environment;
Promoting conservation and stewardship of our environment through outdoor learning and classroom programming;
Engaging youth and to help develop environmental leaders for a more sustainable future.

Today and every day, acknowledge that the Land on which we explore, learn, and play holds knowledge and wisdom stored by the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Attawandaron peoples who have cared for it and lived in relationship with it since Turtle Island was formed. We believe every child matters and strive to help children develop a lifelong relationship with the land around them.

This week, our forest schools are honouring National Day of Truth and Reconciliation by wearing orange every day and reading the true story that inspired Orange Shirt Day, "With Our Orange Hearts" by Phyllis Webstad.

Our Chirps spend their days fostering their imagination during child-led time outdoors, playing in the fields and forest. Our RECE practitioner will lead your children as they spend time nature crafting, exploring, playing games, enjoying a quiet/nap time, learning and connecting to the outdoor world around them.

As summer comes to a close and we all prepare for the back-to-school season, we're taking a moment to look back at our favourite moments from this year's summer camp! With eight weeks of camp at our Norfolk location and two weeks of camp at our Brant location, we had a fun-filled summer making memories to last a lifetime.

Our last week of camp Pirate Adventures !
Ahoy Mate!
What a blast last week was with campers following a treasure map, constructing pirate hats, engineering boats to float, building a moat in the sand, playing games and making friends.
Hard to believe camp is over for another year.
Look for next summers registration in the new year.

NCEE welcomes Jen Thompson to the Board of Directors.

Passionate about life-long learning through experiential education and with an MSc in Education, Jen has spent the last 20 years teaching and volunteering in some of the most incredible - and remote - places on earth, including the United Arab Emirates and Nunavut. She now resides in Norfolk and teaches secondary school.

Having a firm belief that you need to build and support the community you want to see, Jen is the founder of the Waterford Seedy Saturday and the Waterford Community Bingo. She is also currently the Festival Coordinator for Norfolk Nature's 2027 Nature Fest.
