One of the loudest events of the year!

Are you ready to dance the fright away?

Tomorrow there will be no school as we all observe the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation to honour the survivors of residential schools, those children who didn’t come home and the continued impact on Indigenous families.

“The Indian Residential School System operated across Canada from 1831 to 1996. For more than a century, Indigenous children were removed forcibly from their families and communities and placed in residential schools for [the purpose of removing the language and culture of Indigenous Peoples]” (https://victoriaorangeshirtday.com/).

Options for your reconciliation journey could include:

Wearing an orange shirt tomorrow to honour and acknowledge
Reading the “94 Calls to Action” in the TRC report
Watch any of the previously recorded videos from the NCTR https://nctr.ca/education/
Attending the South Island POWWOW at Royal Athletic Park
Learning more about Residential School History

Reconciliation through Education with NCTR’s teaching resources and educational programming make it easier for the public to learn the truth.
