Welcome to the 2026-27 Training Year!

We are pleased to welcome back all our apprentices for another training year! After a busy summer with the Pre-Employment Program running in Campbell River, Sidney, & Vancouver; we’re excited to announce three new faces joining our operations team! In Sidney we have a new Program Administrator Pavit Luthra, who comes to us after time spent as the Admissions Advisor for CDI College. We look forward to implementing his skillset as we continue to expand in all regions of the Province!

Our next two team members are familiar faces at Quadrant Marine, both of whom are MST Journey-persons that instruct within the program now. Please join us celebrating them moving into more expanded roles!

First we have our new North Island Training Co-Ordinator Scott Newberg-Wong. His many years in industry as well as his success in the MST and MSM programs are a huge benefit as we prepare to expand our MST block release training to Campbell River (Program Start February 2027).

And finally, Chris Dudenas will be taking on the role of Quadrant Marine Institute’s Head of Programming! Chris has an extensive history in sailing, instructional design, & of course industry experience! His position will ensure consistent curriculum and delivery in all training areas.

Remembering Scott Allan

Scott Allan is a Journeyperson Marine Service Technician. He transitioned an early career in construction to building boats for Park Isle Marine in Sooke and then spent the last few decades on the service and repair side with Blackline Marine in Sidney. Scott specialized in composite structures. He enthusiastically shared his experience with our advanced composites classes from 2016 – 2020.

Scott valued his MST qualification and the community of colleagues that surrounded him. He was recently quoted by a colleague and mentor on a CBC radio program as saying, “What we do isn’t difficult to understand but it can take a lifetime to master it.” He was proud of the attention to detail it took to achieve a complex repair to better-than-new condition. Scott’s commitment to his craft made our community better.

This Marine Service Excellence Month, QMI is celebrating 30 years of Marine Service Excellence in BC!

In 1996, a collection of industry leaders developed what is now Quadrant Marine Institute, a designated Skilled Trades BC trainer and apprenticeship provider. With Marine Service Technicians across the province and country, this milestone celebration is made even more special with the ongoing work we’re doing everyday.

Currently our team is running the Marine Service Pre-Employment Program in Campbell River, with our Sidney cohort starting on May 19th, and Vancouver on July 6th. Welcoming new professionals to our ever growing community across more of BC than ever before.

We’re celebrating the successful completion of Marine Service Technician Apprenticeship levels on both sides of the Salish Sea, with a special celebration of our graduating level 4’s while they wait for their Certification of Qualification results!

Out of Province, we take pride in the continued success of the MST program at the Nova Scotia Boatbuilders Association, and the Whatcom Working Waterfront Foundation. Thank you to all the MST’s in Atlantic Canada & the United States for reinforcing Quadrant’s mission of Marine Service Excellence!

& the Marine Service Manager course is set to start in November 2026 at our Vancouver facility, as the last few finishers of 2025 complete their certification.

Thank you to the entire community of Marine Service Professionals who have contributed to the success and standard of our school. We’re excited to start our 30th year with more apprentices than ever before, and are humbled by the ever growing support of our Industry in all aspects of our training. Happy Marine Service Excellence Month!

The Pre-Employment Program is Back, Across BC!

Building on the continued success of the last few years, the “We Float Boats” Marine Service Pre-Employment is back and bigger than ever. This year, in addition to programs at our main training locations of Sidney & Vancouver, we’ll be running a third cohort in Campbell River!

Applications for all three programs are now open!

In Campbell River, our course will run from April 30 - July 10th. To make this course accessible to students entering the workforce, the course has been extended to run from Thursdays - Saturdays until June 26th, at which point it transitions to a Monday - Friday program for work experience. This new location will feature all the same content, certifications, and industry exposure as our current programming!

In Sidney, PEP will be operating out of our main office & workshop in Canoe Cove Marina from May 19th - June 26th. Working with the Sidney, Saanich, and Victoria area companies, we’re excited to bring the PEP program back to the heart of Marine Service in our Province.

And finally, Vancouver’s course will run from July 6th - August 14th at our Shelter Island Marina Facility. Our training partners there can be found all across Metro-Vancouver!

Space is limited for all locations, but the skills training, employment readiness, and work placements are proven stepping stones to Marine Service excellence!
