Next Step students are taking action today to remember the legacy of our First Nation Peoples and the residential schools that deeply impacted the lives of so many. Today we will be sharing Three Sisters Soup and bannock, and visiting Elk Island National Park for land-based education activities.
Orange Shirt Day is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come. Learn more at www.orangeshirtday.org

Here are some Important Start Up Dates for the 2017–2018 School Year:

August 24th – August 25th: In-Person Registration 9:00 am – 2:00 pm

(Alternatively, online registration is open 24/7 at www.eipsnextstep.ca/spo/registration)

August 28th–29th : School Closed for Professional Development
August 30th–September 6th : Scheduled Advisor and Intake Meetings
September 7th: Orientation Begins

In order to streamline the application and registration process, we are providing an online registration portal for students and parents. The process is easy:

We will contact you to set up an intake or advisor interview some time after August 23rd, 2017.

Tonight we celebrate our graduating Next Step students. Congrats, Grads! We are so proud of you!

The end of June is fast approaching and Next Step students and staff are busy preparing for end of year exams - including Grade 12 Diploma Examinations. The dates of diploma exams can be found on the calendar, but just a reminder that the school is closed on the following dates to accommodate diploma exam writers:

- Thursday June 15th - Closed until 12:30
- Friday June 16th - Closed until 12:30
- Thursday June 22nd - Closed until 12:30
- Friday June 23rd - Closed until 12:30

Other than those dates, the school is open regular hours.

Are you working this summer? Are you interested in Work Experience, Health Internships or the Registered Apprenticeship Program?
Last year more than 35 high school students from around the district joined Next Step’s Summer Off Campus Education program to participate in Work Experience, Health Internships and RAP. We are offering the same opportunity this July and August. For some students this will be a new program they start for the first time while others will continue their programs from Semester 2 or the previous summer. Students can earn high school credits and/or other credentials while earning income through their summer job.

Next Step is excited to head into "Canada's Unofficial First Weekend of Summer"! Just a reminder that all EIPS schools will be closed May 18 - 22nd inclusive for the long weekend. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend!

The 2017 Hats On! For Mental Health Day will occur on May 3.

Each May, Albertans are invited to wear a hat to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health. Next Step Sherwood Park encourages students and teachers to build understanding by wearing hats to school. Let's remove the stigma!
