Part of what makes our NHS community so great is the interconnectedness of students across all grades. Through our buddy program, young students get paired with older kids in a variety of learning environments. And thanks to various Junior High programs, our young teens are often taking leadership roles with younger learners as well.
This village mentality is also what drives the financial support of the Grade 9 Adventure Trip. This trip occurs annually at the end of the school year to celebrate students’ educational journey at New Horizons School.
Fundraising efforts for this multi-day trip take place throughout the year through Bottle Collection in-school and during all events where families visit the school, as well as through student run concessions and specific Hot Lunch dates. These fundraising efforts are integral to ensuring equitable access to enriched experiences such as the Adventure Trip.
The upcoming Spring Carnival is the last school-wide event of the year and a perfect opportunity for families across all grades to support the Grade 9s. Bottle Collection benefits all students equally so haul a bag or two with you to school on May 23rd! The concessions at the Spring Carnival are run by students who work 30 minute shifts and receive a “wage” that translates to a cost reduction of their trip. This year, the concessions will offer hot dogs in addition to the usual snack foods. Please bring cash for the concessions.

Don't miss out! Grab your lawn chairs, sunscreen, some cash for concessions, and meet your NHS family in the fields for an afternoon of celebration!
This year we have the Alberta Petting Zoo and Kona Ice shaved ice food truck joining us. Returning are the bouncers with a standard bouncy castle and obstacle course. Also returning are glitter tattoos, lawn games, custom button making, the light up cone challenge in the gym, Splash the Staff fundraiser, and Guess It! Lunch with a Teacher fundraiser.
The Junior High-run concessions will offer the usual snacks plus hot dogs to fill those hungry bellies. So be sure to bring CASH.
As always, we appreciate the continued support of parent volunteers whether you're helping set up and tear down tables and equipment, sitting at the button maker station supporting kiddos and their creativity, or positioning your chit chat session near the bouncers to ensure kids are remaining safe. We cannot manage these large-scale events without this wonderful village!
