This elegantly dressed man poses with his pup, their faces equally serious, for a photograph taken in the 1800s. They say that owners and pets resemble one another: would you agree?

We will see our first peonies blooming very soon. In honor of this wonderful event, we share this postcard view from the 1910s of Harry A. Norton's peony and lilac garden, with Lake Massawippi shining in the background. People came from as far as California to see Mr. Norton's three-hundred flower varieties.

Most of us should be more thankful for our current means of transportation, especially in
the colder months of the year. Horse sleighs may be quite stylish, but we are sure they did
not possess seat warmers or the comfort of modern cars. This photograph of a group in
and around an elongated traverse sleigh was taken around 1912 in front of the Rice home
in Riceburg.
