Good morning from Sherbrooke Village! For the Nova Scotia Museum challenge, we are highlighting a cosy tradition. Join our potter, Miss Hiltz, as she begins her day with a comforting pot of tea. True to the craft, her morning brew is enjoyed using an earthenware teapot and mug historically replicated and created inside our very own pottery shop.

Where has the summer gone? Today we say goodbye to our student interpreters. You were delightful to work with and we will miss you!

And all weekend long, the **84th Regiment of Foot** will be encamped in the village, with pitched tents, cannon fire, muskets, and demonstrations bringing a 19th-century military encampment to life.

Many photographers have helped make our studio a success over the years. Suzette and Susan have been operating the studio for the past 29 years! We believe they are two of the most knowledgeable wet plate collodion photographers in Canada! Their creativity and passion for this unique method of 19th century photography is unparalleled. It’s rainbow Wednesday and today’s colour is Blue. Royal Union flag blue! The Royal Union Flag, created in 1606 through the combination of the red Cross of St. George with the white saltire Cross of St. Andrew (the patron saint of Scotland) on a blue field. This flag was the result of the kingdoms of England and Scotland uniting under King James I/VI (England/Scotland). In 1707, England and Scotland were formally joined as the United Kingdom of Great Britain under Queen Anne.
In 1801, the second — and current — version of the Union Flag was created under King George III with the union of Great Britain and Ireland, adding the red saltire Cross of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, to the overall design, which remains in effect to this day. When unfurled at sea, the Royal Union Flag was, and remains, referred to as the Union Jack.

Oh! 53 acres of historic village contain a myriad of - for the we’ve chosen this teeny tiny “o” at only 6 point type. This little block is part of a large collection of moveable lead type used in hand-set letterpress printing. This tiny Oh is modelled by the wonderful Mrs. McGrath at the St Mary’s Print Shop, where we continue the tradition of letterpress and handmade paper demonstrations.

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, August 15th, as we welcome Mi’kmaq artist and traditional knowledge keeper Todd Labrador. Exhibit Centre foyer from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Visitors can also view the traveling exhibit Revealing Chignecto which remains on display until September 13th.
