We are pleased to welcome back our former intern, Mathys Gagnon, who has chosen the Net Zero Chair, a LIRIDE research unit, for his master's degree in civil engineering.

Mathys will work on the critical assessment of Net Zero definitions from a Life Cycle Assessment perspective. He hopes his research will help organisations having a better clarity on how to achieve carbon neutrality. 🧭

« It is really important for me to focus my efforts on a field that has a real impact on our planet. Contributing to achieving Net Zero and support the organizations striving toward this goal is exactly where I want to invest my energy. »

In his spare time, Mathys enjoys many hobbies, such as soccer, outdoor adventures, arts and music.⚽

C’est avec joie que nous accueillons notre ancien stagiaire Mathys Gagnon, qui a choisi la Chaire Net Zéro, une unité de recherche du LIRIDE, pour sa maîtrise en génie civil de type recherche.

Il s’intéressera durant son parcours à l’évaluation critique des définitions du net zéro carbone à travers l’analyse du cycle de vie. Mathys souhaite que ses recherches aient un impact concret par rapport à ce qui limite les organisations dans l’atteinte de la carboneutralité.🧭

Dans ses temps libres, Mathys s’adonne à de nombreux loisirs, notamment le soccer, le plein air, les arts et la musique. ⚽

LIRIDE was mandated by InnoCaoutchouc360, a government‑recognized rubber industry excellence cluster that brings together several major elastomer companies, and by the Comité sectoriel de la main‑d’œuvre du caoutchouc, a workforce development organization funded by the Québec government, to train their members in ecodesign and life cycle assessment. The training was led by the research professionals Gabrielle Plourde and Yannick Lessard. 📝

This initiative is part of a broader mandate with Innocaoutchouc360 aimed at accelerating ecodesign practices across the sector, including the development of industry‑specific LCA datasets.

The session focused on raising awareness of environmental best practices and on the methods and strategies needed to successfully carry out ecodesign projects.🏗️

A great opportunity for companies to enrich their practice with LIRIDE’s scientific expertise.

Le LIRIDE a été mandaté par InnoCaoutchouc360, qui associe plusieurs entreprises dans le secteur des élastomères, et le Comité sectoriel de la main-d’œuvre du caoutchouc afin de former leurs membres à l’écoconception et à l’analyse du cycle de vie (ACV). Cette formation a été animée par les professionnels de recherche Gabrielle Plourde et Yannick Lessard.📝

Cette initiative s’inscrit dans un mandat plus large avec Innocaoutchouc, dont l’objectif est de favoriser l’écoconception à travers divers projets, notamment le développement de données d’ACV spécifiques à l’industrie.

La formation visait principalement à sensibiliser aux bonnes pratiques environnementales et aux différentes démarches et stratégies pour mener avec succès des projets d’écoconception.🏗️

In spring 2025, we conducted a series of interviews with leaders across the entire value chain of the built environment. Their insights—rooted in operational realities—shed light on the essential conditions for integrating Net Zero into practice.

These perspectives form the first milestone of the Net Zero Chair’s research program.

Marion chose to do her internship with us to improve her practical communication skills while getting involved in projects that support the environmental cause. 🌿

In her spare time, Marion loves sipping slushies in the sun while reading a good book, flip-flops at her feet.🔆

Research is currently underway at LIRIDE to develop a method for estimating and breaking down the carbon footprint of consumption at the city level, using data collected at the national and provincial levels.

Des travaux de recherche sont actuellement menés au LIRIDE afin de développer une méthode permettant d’estimer et de désagréger l’empreinte carbone de la consommation à l’échelle des villes, à partir de données collectées aux niveaux national et provincial.
