Help Justin (Zhijun) recover from cancer surgery, organized by Wade Lynch 07/20/2022

A special message from BULLA director Wade Lynch:

I am reaching out to you all to ask if you can spare a few dollars to help one of Bishop's University's soon-to-be-grads get past a challenging period in his life.

Justin is an international student from China who will finish his Drama and Arts Administration degree this August. Prior to coming to Canada to polish his English and further his career opportunities, Justin worked in media/PR for major entertainment conglomerates. Justin has done remarkable work at Bishop's, appearing in productions of Performance Beyond Performativity, L'Affaire Tartuffe and Haunted Happenings. He was also very successful as part of the marketing team for Speech & Debate.

In the winter of 2021, a persistent sore throat led Justin to the health clinic and to the discovery of cancerous tumors in his throat and thyroid. He had surgery to remove the cancer in late June. It was a severe affliction, but Justin’s doctors say he can expect a full recovery.

Justin’s program will be finished in August, when his student visa will expire. He will then have to apply for a work visa and find work while he recovers. A return to Taiwan or China is not possible at the moment, due to severe COVID restrictions.

Fortunately, Justin’s student health insurance covered his surgery costs. Unfortunately, while he recovers, he is unable to work and has no way to pay for his rent ($500/month), food ($75/week) and sundries ($200/month).

I hope to unite our community in supporting Justin’s five- to seven-month convalescence by raising $6000.00 to cover the basics while he completes his last course and recovers from the procedure. Any amount you can spare will be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with me.

Many thanks for helping a talented young man re-start his life.

Sincerely,

Wade Lynch
