“Reversal is the movement of the Dao.” — Tao Te Ching Tai Chi follows the same principle. Behind every movement you can see, there is another movement going in the opposite direction. When we only learn the external movements, Tai Chi loses its sense of breath— that continuous, unbroken quality of being both sinking and soft. This is also where I find the beauty of Tai Chi. Within a single movement, there can be infinite expansion, yet at the same time, infinite gathering. Moving outward while returning inward. Rising while sinking. Advancing while something retreats. One cannot exist without the other. “So great that nothing lies beyond it; so small that nothing lies within it.” 其大无外，其小无内。 Perhaps this is why the deeper I go into Tai Chi, the less it feels like learning movements, and the more it feels like discovering the space hidden inside every movement. 08/17/2026
