Friday, June 5, 2026: Earlier today, Peace Wapiti Public School Division was made aware of a potential safety concern brought forward by a member of the Sexsmith Secondary School community.

As we take all reports seriously, we immediately enacted our established safety protocols and have been working in close collaboration with local law enforcement and community partners to investigate.

Because this matter is under active review, we are unable to provide specific details. However, please be assured that all concerns are thoroughly assessed to ensure our buildings remain secure.

Based on the information available at this time, there is no imminent risk to the safety of our students, staff, or school community.

We understand that news of this nature can cause stress or worry for students. Our school counsellors and support staff will be available to any student who needs someone to talk to or requires extra reassurance.

How you can help: We ask our students, families, and community members to refrain from speculating or sharing unverified information on social media. It is vital that our students feel secure, knowing that the adults responsible for their care are taking every necessary step to keep them safe.
