It’s World Teachers’ Day, and we happen to think our St. Mary’s teachers are pretty amazing… out of this world, actually! 🚀💙💛

To give our whole staff time to meet and keep doing the great work they do for our Saints, all students will be dismissed at 2:30 p.m. Monday for our monthly staff meeting.
Please make sure your child knows their safe plan for getting home at 2:30 p.m.

Today, our Saints helped lead Mass, sharing their voices, gifts and faith with our parish community.

Our students are an important and contributing part of parish life, and opportunities like this give them a meaningful way to actively live and grow their faith.

October is the month of the Holy Rosary, a beautiful time to come together in prayer, with each prayer adding its light to our school and parish community. 🕯️📿

🌱 A very special delivery has arrived at St. Mary’s!

Our Growcer Freight Farm is here!

Education comes in all shapes and sizes, and today our Saints had a front-row seat to some pretty impressive skills as a semi driver and crane operator worked together to carefully lift our Freight Farm into place.

Before long, we’ll be growing fresh, wholesome vegetables all year long for our community, creating new opportunities for our students and giving our MicroSociety learning a whole new level to grow into!

A huge thank you to our friends at J.D.A. Ventures Ltd. for their generous gift-in-kind of time, expertise and machinery to make today’s technical lift happen. We are so grateful for community partners who help us turn big ideas into real opportunities for our Saints!

This project wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our community. J.D.A. is one of several amazing partners who have helped us get this far, and we can’t wait to share more about the people and organizations helping bring this project to life!

🍂 Gratitude in Action! 🍂

Throughout October, our Saints will focus on the virtue of gratitude. Today, we kick off the month by putting that gratitude into action with two special service projects: our Thankful & Blessed Food Drive and acting as a Coats for Kids collection point! 🥫🧥💛

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Today, St. Mary’s is closed as we pause to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as well as Orange Shirt Day.

Over the past week, our Saints have been learning, creating and reflecting. Each student created their own unique orange shirt, spent time learning about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and came together in prayer to remember the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry their stories.

Our prayer service also brought our September focus on the virtue of Belonging to a close, a meaningful place for these lessons to meet.

Belonging is more than being welcomed. It is knowing that we are connected to one another, that our stories matter, and that we each carry a responsibility to listen, learn and care for the relationships we share.

While this week has given us an important opportunity to pause and reflect, these lessons do not end here. Learning the truth, listening to the stories of Indigenous Peoples, and growing in understanding and reconciliation are commitments we carry with us throughout the year and beyond.

Today, we encourage our families to continue that learning together by taking part in one of the special events happening in our community, such as the Orange Shirt Day 5 km Walk at Muskoseepi Park or the Traditional Tea Dance hosted by the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre.

Truth comes before reconciliation, and reconciliation is something we continue to work toward together.

May our Saints grow with open hearts, the courage to seek truth, and an understanding that the way we care for one another today helps shape the path for those who come after us. 🧡

🧡 Every Child Matters 🧡

Today, St. Mary’s will recognize Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as tomorrow is Picture Day and our school will be closed on Wednesday.
Recognizing the day today also allows space for meaningful learning, conversations and activities to continue throughout the week.

Our students had the opportunity to create their own unique orange shirts at school, and we invite them to wear their creations today, ensuring everyone is included in this special act.

We will also come together for a special prayer service and Saints in Action Virtues Awards beginning at 2:10 p.m., taking time as a school community to reflect, learn, remember and continue growing in our understanding of truth and reconciliation.

🚧 TRAFFIC FLOW UPDATE 🚧

A temporary detour road has now been put in place to access St. Mary’s while construction continues north of the school.

As always, student safety is our primary concern. Families of students who walk, bike or scooter to school are encouraged to have a conversation with their children about navigating the new route safely, or consider escorting them while everyone becomes familiar with the change.

Please also allow a little extra time for drop-off and pick-up. The entrance to the detour is not wide enough to accommodate two-way traffic, so patience and cooperation will be important as vehicles take turns entering and exiting.

Pedestrians and school buses will need to be given the right of way. Please slow down, stay alert and watch carefully for students travelling through the area.

Parking directly in front of the school will also be limited as we work to keep clear lines of sight and support safe traffic flow. Families are encouraged to use the parent turnaround for drop-off and pick-up, with additional parking available behind the school near the garage.

We will continue to monitor and navigate these changes as they unfold and remain in conversation with site management to ensure student safety remains the top priority.
