☀️🌿 Today, Robert Smith School celebrated its Summer Solstice and Closing Feast with students, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural teachers and community guests.

Students enjoyed a day of Indigenous learning alongside their buddy classes, including storytelling, drumming, Métis games, bannock making, art and even a goose and duck camp.

The RSS community was also honoured to recognize 12 special guests who have supported the school throughout the year.

The day concluded with a wonderful community feast attended by approximately 350 people.

“Thank you to everyone who shared their knowledge, time and teachings with us this year,” shared Principal Fillion. ❤️

👋 Say hello to Free Transportation for Selkirk Youth

On behalf of Lord Selkirk School Division, we are excited to share this incredible opportunity for local youth. Thanks to the leadership and support of Wab Kinew, the Province of Manitoba, the City of Selkirk, and the many partners who helped bring this vision to life, students aged 12–21 can now access free transit passes through the Next Stop: Selkirk program.

This initiative will help young people get to school, work, activities, appointments, and community events—making transportation more accessible and helping youth stay connected to the opportunities around them.

A sincere thank you to everyone who worked together to make this possible. Partnerships like these create meaningful opportunities for students and strengthen our entire LSSD community.

While this year’s event was unexpectedly cut short by a power outage, it certainly did not dim the light of the incredible students we gathered to recognize. Their hard work, dedication, leadership, and achievements continue to shine brightly, and we know they will carry that same excellence with them as they move on to post-secondary education, careers, and future opportunities.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the many volunteers, organizers, community members, businesses, and donors whose generosity makes this celebration possible each year. Your support helps our students pursue their goals and continue their journey of educational excellence beyond Lord Selkirk School Division.
