My name is Victoria Mercedes Rose, and Embodied Life is a platform, community, and movement that challenges the status quo. Here you will find:

- Practical tools to slow down and reconnect with yourself, others, and life
- Teachings drawn from both professional training and lived experience
- Nature, writing, music, movement, and expression to inspire aliveness and reclamation

With a background in counselling and holistic healing, I am passionate about discovering and reclaiming the parts of ourselves that have been lost, suppressed, or forgotten. I guide people back into relationship with their bodies and the often-forgotten parts of themselves after years of numbness, disconnection, or survival mode. Through embodiment, reflection, and lived experience, I invite a remembering of what it means to feel, to be present, and to come alive again. I believe every body has a story to tell. 📖

Coming to you today with something a bit more honest and raw. 🌹

Some of you know I had a death in my family recently — and at the time, I wasn’t quite ready to share that it was my mom.

This loss has been something I’ve been anticipating for quite some time, as I lost both of my parents to addiction when I was young, and started grieving them long ago.

What I didn’t expect was what would happen a month later, when I finally worked up the courage to reach out to her brothers to let them know what had happened — men whose voices I hadn’t heard since I was a child.

One of them answered.

In an hour-long phone call, after I told him about the years I’d spent in foster care and my own journey with addiction, he told me something I never saw coming:

“I had no idea,” he said. “We would have never abandoned you.”

That single sentence upended so much about what I’d believed about my life and my family — or the lack thereof.

The full story is up on the blog (link in bio) — about the assumptions we make, the beliefs we inherit, and what it can cost us to believe something that isn’t true.

I’m sharing this in hopes that it inspires you. It’s filled with tenderness and heartbreak, but it’s also left me choosing differently moving forward — and with real hope, knowing miracles are possible when we’re brave enough to open our hearts.

From the deepest place in my heart to yours,
Victoria Mercedes Rose 🌹♥️

When we develop a wider emotional range we develop more capacity to feel. This greater capacity for feeling helps us access deeper states of connection, love, joy, pleasure and belonging… Leading to greater fulfillment in life.

As someone whose life is devoted to this inner work — I can say with confidence it has been the most rewarding work I’ve ever done.

It is not without its challenges, but what awaits on the other side is so much more beautiful and fulfilling than one could ever imagine. 🤍

I’ve been spending more time in spaces recently where people let it be messy, imperfect, and continue to show up anyway.

I don’t believe nature ever intended for us to be perfect or spotless… or for creative expression to be about performance and sounding or looking “good”.

To embrace one’s imperfections shamelessly feels magnetic to me—in awe of how incredibly deep beauty can be… not despite these imperfections, but because of them.

I think back to my journey with creativity… how afraid I was of even trying things in fear that I’d look stupid or silly, how inspired I felt by people who created things imperfectly, and how eventually that became permission for me to create imperfectly too.

It takes courage to go from “I wish I could do that” to “I want to try that”, then just going for it 🤷🏻‍♀️ (sometimes we forget that’s even an option).

So, my invitation to you is, reflect on something you’ve wanted to do but haven’t out of fear of judgement or criticism and try it on. Let it be an experiment… just to see what happens.

So many of us are tired of being put in boxes, tired of striving to fit a standard that is chronically unattainable, only leading to deeper guilt and shame.

Some of the most beautiful things in life are shrouded in “imperfections,” and yet it’s the imperfections themselves we find most enchanting.

In a world obsessed with perfection and flawlessness, letting it be messy is something I believe we need more of…

To drop the masks, let go of the performance, and just be exactly who we are, imperfections and all.

To embrace that shamelessly, and wear it proudly?

To me, that’s freedom.

There’s a lot of talk in the wellness world about the mind-body connection.

We see very clearly how the mind and body are in consistent communication with one another. When it comes to fear and our felt sense of safety—the awareness of this connection is especially important.

A few ways we can bring more awareness to this connection:

1. Posture & how your body is holding tension (practice consciously relaxing and noticing how your posture impacts how you feel).
2. The ways our early childhood experiences around safety impact our life and perception of safety as adults.
3. How our thoughts directly impact our body & brain’s felt sense of safety moment to moment.

The highest form of emotional intelligence is learning how to hold both. This, and.

Grief and gratitude. Rage and understanding. Something falling apart and something alive right alongside it. Swipe through 🤍

If you’re in a season of holding a lot right now and could use support learning to hold it all without collapsing into one side, this is the work I do with clients 1:1.

DM me to set up a free 15-minute intro call.

What many of us weren’t taught is this:

Your resistance is a messenger.

It has something important it’s trying to communicate,

and it deserves to be honoured.

So long as we keep overriding our resistance, we will continue to feel unwell, disempowered and stuck.

But when we start to connect with what’s underneath— we discover the very thing that’s holding us back.

Then, we can take appropriate action, and the resistance dissolves.

Pushing past resistance will only get us so far (and sometimes it gets us very far, with the caveat that we end up unwell in the process).

Most of my clients find me when pushing stops working.

And when we start to peel back the layers, there is an abundance of forgotten truth waiting to be discovered.

Your body knows
and your truth awaits you.

Although I genuinely love my role as an educator and guide, as a counsellor..

I am learning more and more about systems that have hierarchical structures and how that can impact someone’s sense of self-trust and self-confidence.

So, I don’t want to sit on a pedestal and tell you what you need.

I don’t want you to look to me as if I have the answers.

I want to empower you and remind you how to connect with yourself so you can find your own answers within.

I’ve spent so much of my life looking outside of myself for answers.

You know where that got me?

Anxious, exhausted, depressed, lonely, and confused.

Until I learned how to FEEL my body, my heart, my breath, my spirit,

My truth.

Until I learned how to trust myself above all else.

(I’m still working on that one 🙋🏻‍♀️)

Trusting oneself can feel next to impossible in a world that tells us who to be, what to want, and how to live.

It’s loud out here.

And the last thing I want to do is add to that noise— instead, I want to share my voice…

In hopes that my journey can inspire you to do the same.

Why is this important to me?

Because I believe that this is the medicine the world needs to heal.

I believe we need to learn how to FEEL again.

Feeling =
Freedom =
Power ~

Then, we all win.

I live in the small town I was born and raised in…
Some people find this preposterous, others- charming.

Although I can admit I’ve lived a sheltered life locationally— my life at home growing up and my internal world have been far from sheltered.

Some of us go through things in life that people—particularly children—should not have to go through.

Violence, abuse, addiction, neglect, abandonment. No one should have to face the consequences of such heartbreaking circumstances.

But… that’s life.

I know, I know…

That’s grim of me to say.

And, as someone who’s experienced the above mentioned for the first two decades of my life— this truth has saved me.

I’ve spent many years feeling sorry for myself— using my pain as an excuse to not to go after what I want and what I know I deserve.

And I tried and tried and tried to do it differently. But every time I tried to expand my wings and soar, I’d come crashing back down.

Until I stopped trying to escape my pain.

It was through accepting the horrific things I’d experienced, and learning how to be with the pain and suffering that I experience to this day as a result of it…

That I’ve finally gotten to experience what true joy feels like.

What safety feels like.

What confidence and security feel like.

When we try to escape the pain of life— we perpetuate the belief that we do not have the capacity to hold it.

But when we can learn to face it— we find that we are so much stronger and capable than we could have ever imagined.

It is through sitting with my shadow that I have the capacity and privilege to sit with others in theirs.

It is the greatest gift that comes from sitting with our pain—

Deeper connection.

With ourselves,

With others,

With life itself.

May you trust that your pain, too, can become a source of strength and deeper connection.

Blessings from my heart to yours—
Victoria Mercedes Rose 🌹
