Suzanne Moore will be teaching "Beyond Pigment and Paste" at the American Academy of Bookbinding in Telluride from September 14-18, 2023

https://bookbindingacademy.org/courses/telluride-summer/

Discover unlimited possibilities, from making unique patterns to expressive paintings – using the principles of traditional paste paper, and venturing far beyond. The techniques presented will expand your repertoire of surface design to explore dimensional surfaces, “writing,” and image-making. Create individual or edition work for use as book pages or covering materials.

Explore a new way of using “paste paper” techniques, and go beyond what you might imagine: beginning with color fields, and patterns, and leading to experiments with resists, dry media (pastels and graphite), and create the look of dimension on paper. Suzanne has developed an array of effects, over decades as a maker of unique and edition work. Whether your vision is illustrative or abstract, there are techniques to realize your images.

Unlock the door to creating papers to serve your particular purpose: collage, distinct book pages, end papers, and cover papers.

American Academy of Bookbinding Workshop
MAKING YOUR MARK with Suzanne Moore
September 19–23

Join us for this adventure into the possibilities of expression through the distinct movements of your hand. Explorations of mark-making and handwritten forms, var- ious tools, and layering media will take us on an unfolding journey to create pages for a series of 2D works on paper or a simple book. You can easily translate this work into imagery for print, book content, and fine bindings.

Using universal symbols and a text of your choice as inspiration, each participant will employ black and white and color media to explore interpretations of verbal content. A series of exercises using Sumi ink, gouache, and acrylic media will offer a rich array of possibilities for each artist to create work unique to their vision. This workshop is part of an ongoing series Suzanne has developed: Word as Image.

Open to all students interested in creating word-based images, for artists’ books, painting, drawing, printmaking and binding design.

Space is available, register now.
