IRCC Clarification about PGWP on Feb 5, 2024

1. Extended Work Permit for Master's Graduates: Starting from February 15, 2024, graduates from master's degree programs lasting less than 2 years will have the opportunity to get a 3-year post-graduation work permit (PGWP) to gain Canadian work experience, which can help them apply for permanent residence.
2. Eligibility for Longer PGWP: Those who complete programs of at least two years in length at designated learning institutions or master's degree programs less than 2 years in length are eligible for the extended 3-year PGWP.
3. Restrictions on PGWP for Public-Private Partnership College Programs: Due to concerns about the quality of education and student support at these institutions, new students enrolling in public-private partnership college programs will not be eligible for a PGWP. However, current international students enrolled will remain eligible.
4. Changes to Open Work Permit for Spouses: Spouses and common-law partners of international students in graduate and professional degree programs will be eligible for open work permits. However, those with partners in other levels of study, such as undergraduate or college programs, will no longer be eligible unless they already hold an open work permit.
Spouses and common-law partners of international students seeking to extend their existing work permit will continue to be eligible under this stream.

IRCC Update: Mandatory Attestation Letter for Canadian Study Permit Application

Applicants for a study permit are required to submit an attestation letter as of January 22, 2024. In order to complete your study permit application, most students must include an attestation letter issued by the province or territory where they intend to pursue their studies.
Please note that failure to provide an attestation letter with your application will result in its return.

DO NOT need Attestation Letter you fall into one of the following categories:

• A minor child attending a primary or secondary school
(kindergarten to grade 12)
• A student enrolled in a master's, PhD, or other post-graduate
program
• A student applying for the extension of an existing study permit
