Chi-Miigwech from the CSAA: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On behalf of the Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association (CSAA), we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who joined us in commemorating the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR), also known as Orange Shirt Day. Each year this day brings our community together to reflect, to listen, and to learn; and every year, the impact grows.

It warms our hearts to see so many students, staff, faculty, and community members gathering in solidarity and respect. The growing attendance and genuine engagement remind us that reconciliation is not a single act or event, but an ongoing journey we share together. We are especially grateful to the Community Support Team, NORDIK, Algoma University and our friends across the community.

Through ceremony, teachings, and conversations, we continue to honour Survivors, families, and all those impacted by the Residential School system. We walk this path together, learning from the past and committing to a better future.

As Elder Shirley Horn so beautifully shared, β€œWe need the younger generations to step up and share our stories. We are living encyclopedias, but we are passing on. We need this work to continue in a good way, in good spirit.”

Miigwech, thank you, and merci to everyone who continues to walk with us in the spirit of truth, reconciliation, and community. Your presence and participation truly make a difference.

With gratitude,

Children of Shingwauk Alumni Association
