Guess who visited the Grade 5/6 class, today? Andrew Gibson and Charlie Schenkel of the Soo Greyhounds dropped by the class this afternoon. The Greyhounds visited with the class and answered some questions the students had. The Greyhound players were awesome and the students really appreciated the visit. Thank you ohlhoundpower!

The Gr 5/6 & 7/8 HCSA classes at St. Basil had a special presentation from Soo Greyhounds Executive Director Dr. George and Cathy Shunock. George shared some of the Greyhound’s history and the story of saving the Greyhounds from moving to Detroit. He highlighted the important leadership role he played in keeping the Greyhounds in the Soo as one of the owners and why he did that. He explained that he did it for the community and for the young aspiring hockey players (like them) in SSM. As a keepsake, George gave all students an original Joe Thornton poster and original set of 1993 Memorial Cup Soo Greyhounds hockey cards.
Grade 5/6 back on the ice working on puck handling, quick turns, passing, and shooting. Also, the goalies were even given time to work on their shots, as well! It felt good to be back on!

Grade 5/6 class was invited to participate in the Heaven Cent student/teacher game. The kids had a blast and they were very grateful for this special opportunity!! Thank you very much to for inviting us. You were incredible! The SMC staff, students, and alumni made the grade 5/6 students feel welcome. Your sportsmanship and cooperation was greatly appreciated!

Grade 5/6 invited their families on the ice for a Family Christmas Skate. The class was so happy to have our special guests on the ice, the bench, and in the stand. The class wishes everybody a Merry Christmas!!
On the way to the rink, the Grade 5/6 HCSA class were showing some Christmas spirit! It was a very enjoyable ride! It was a pleasure to listen to their angelic voices on the bus and it was a pleasure to see them work so hard on the ice!

A great week for the Grade 5/6 HCSA class! The student athletes showed a lot of discipline on the ice and they worked extremely hard! After you work hard, you have definitely earned to play a game afterwards. It has been a pleasure to see all of the improvement by every single player over the last two months! Special thank you to the Sault College Cougar hockey teams for all of the help on the ice!

The week started off for the Grade 5/6 class by loading the bus in the wet snow. That did not stop them from working on their stick handling and shooting. Keep shooting hard!!

Grade 5/6 visited , where they talked about the importance of posture, position, and speed. The student athletes were constantly aware of these three important movements during their workout. Great work!!

Introducing the 2023-2024 Gr 7/8 HCSA class at St. Basil. This great group of student athletes are ready to learn, challenge themselves and grow this year! What a great way to make hockey part of their school day!
