Why do pilots say "Positive Rate, Gear Up"?
After takeoff, the pilot flying waits until the aircraft is confirmed to be climbing (called a positive rate of climb) before retracting the landing gear.
This simple procedure ensures the aircraft is safely gaining altitude. Retracting the gear too early could be risky if the aircraft isn't actually climbing, while leaving it down too long creates unnecessary drag and reduces climb performance.
In aviation, even the simplest callouts are designed to improve safety through consistency and teamwork.
