General information
A Toastmasters club is not a classroom. It is a workshop in which you will develop your communication and leadership skills among a group of friends – people who are there for the same reason you are.
Members draw strength from one another and take pride in helping each other grow and develop.
Toastmasters International offers unique opportunities for the development of skills in areas such as:
• Active listening
• Creative thinking
• Leadership
• Public speaking
• Effective evaluation
What can you expect at a meeting?
At Innovative Toastmasters Club our meetings follow a ‘relaxed’ format compared to other clubs. We focus on:
• Impromptu speaking. The ability to ‘think and speak’ quickly is an important skill. You learn how to present your thoughts in a clear, organized manner with a minimum of preparation.
• Prepared Speeches. Club members prepare speeches based on projects from Communication and Leadership manuals.
Level 1 projects include: Organize Your Speech, Get to the Point, How to Say It, Your Body Speaks, Vocal Variety, Research Your Topic, Get Comfortable with Visual Aids, Persuade with Power, Inspire Your Audience.
• An evaluation session, during which each speaker is provided with valuable feedback regarding the strengths of the speech, and provided with the information that will assist the speaker in problem areas.
