🎒 Getting Ready for a New School Year! 📚
It’s hard to believe that summer break is getting close to the end! Our preparation for the new school year has already begun. We’ve been going over where the kiddos meet up at the end of the school day and continuing to practice and talk about street safety.
They have finally started working on the park area as well, so we’ll be talking about how to stay safe when there is construction or other work happening around us. 🚧
For our families who are sending a little one off to kindergarten, here are a few tips to help make the transition a little easier:
🍎 Practice lunch at home
Think about what you’ll be sending in their lunch and serve it at home in the same container they’ll be using at school. This gives them a chance to practice opening and closing everything independently. Sometimes it’s also easier to put individual-serving items into Tupperware-type containers rather than sending them in their original packaging.
👕 Think about bathroom independence
Make sure their new school clothes are easy for them to maneuver in and out of when they need to use the bathroom. Buttons, snaps and tricky fasteners can be frustrating when they’re learning to manage everything independently.
⏰ Go over their routine
Talk through their schedule with them—what they need to do when they arrive at school, where they need to go, and what happens after school. The more familiar the routine feels, the more confident they may be.
🏷️ Be mindful when labeling belongings
When labeling items, especially backpacks, consider using your child’s last name only rather than their first name. This can help avoid having a child’s name visible to strangers.
A little practice at home can go a long way toward helping our newest little students feel confident and ready for kindergarten! 💕🎒
