On Monday, we took a moment to bring our staff together and set the tone for the new school year. ⭐

Our school division is made stronger by the people within it: by the unique talents, perspectives, and passions each staff member brings to their work, and by the connections we build across our schools and our system. Together, we create the conditions for students to learn, grow, and succeed.

You could feel the energy in the room on Monday with a collective sense of purpose, pride in what we do, and excitement for the year ahead. 🙌

We're proud of our people and what we do at Saskatoon Public Schools. Our staff are excited to welcome back students for another great school year!

There are all kinds of feelings in the hugs and backpack photo ops today. The first day comes with excitement, pride, and sometimes a bit of nervousness, too! All of it is leading up to a great year of learning and new opportunities for students to grow.

Check out these great back-to-school safety tips from Saskatoon Police Service! 🚸🍎

Before you post that first-day-of-school photo, take a moment to protect your child’s privacy.

Back-to-school signs are a fun way to capture the first day, but they can also share more personal information than intended.

As Saskatoon Police Service School Resource Officers return to schools this week, we are reminding families to think carefully about what appears in photos shared online.

Consider leaving out:

- Your child’s name;
- School name, logo, or location;
- Teacher’s name;
- Age or grade; and
- Home address, neighbourhood, bus stop, or daily routine.

Before posting, check the background of the photo for identifying details, such as house numbers, street signs, vehicle license plates, or landmarks. Review your social-media privacy settings and avoid adding location tags.

The safest first-day signs are kept simple and the photos are shared only with the people you trust.

We’re wishing Saskatoon students, families, and school staff a safe and successful school year. As always, remember to slow down and watch for students in school zones.

💜 It was an honour for members of our Saskatoon Public Schools staff to attend ConnectHer on August 27 at Chief Whitecap School!

ConnectHer was an inaugural fundraising event put on by the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation with the support of many community partners. It was an opportunity to hear from powerful women exceeding expectations in academia, sport, leadership, and more. 🌟

Thank you to Marci Halseth, Chief Tammy Cook-Searson, and Candace Laing for sharing pieces of your stories with us and inspiring us! Our cups are full today. 💚

The Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation is an independent charity working in partnership with Saskatoon Public Schools. Just a few things they make possible through the funding supports they secure:

📖 Early literacy supports like reading tutors in schools and free literacy-focused summer camps

The staff parking lot is looking mighty full at Colette Bourgonje School and you know what that means - staff are getting everything in place to welcome their classes back next Wednesday! 💫

A lot goes into preparing for the year, from getting classrooms set up to lesson planning. 🎨✏ All of that work leads to a first day at school where each child can feel seen, welcomed, and excited.

Welcome back SPS staff, we're so excited to kick off 2026-27! 💚

The forecast is looking fine for one of our last weekends of summer break! ☀️

Why not spend some time at a playground or one of our city’s other great outdoor spaces? One that comes to mind is Wanuskewin Heritage Park! They have the playground AND the beautiful outdoor space AND things to do inside as well.

Questions about back-to-school registration? Here’s what you need to know!

If your child is returning to the same school as last year, you do not need to register. 🙅‍♂️

You do need to register if:
👉 Your child is transferring schools within Saskatoon or from outside of the city
👉 Your child is entering the school system for the first time, including starting Prekindergarten or Kindergarten.

Schools remain closed for summer break, but there are still lots of options to register:
✅ Online at www.spsd.sk.ca
✅ By phone, 306-683-8200
✅ In person at our central office (310 21st St E) during business hours
✅ In person at any elementary school on Tuesday, September 1 from 1–3 PM — no appointment needed!
