Active Living for Pain seeks to promote active lifestyles to help individuals manage their pain. Chronic pain affects about 22% of the Saskatchewan population.
We are a Saskatchewan-based research group from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Kinesiology, and the Saskatoon Health Region. We are looking at ways to support people with chronic pain to be physically active in their homes and community. Although physical activity has proven benefits, people with pain often struggle to be regularly active. We are interested in finding out what challeng
es a person with pain experiences, which may prevent them from being physically active. We are also interested in working with all those who provide physical activity services, locally and provincially, and those who support people with pain. Our goal is to help people with pain find ways to manage their challenges in a positive way, so that they can be physically active on a regular basis. We also want to assist those that provide physical activity services and educational supports, so that they can deliver the best possible options for those that have chronic pain. We are looking for input and feedback from communities about their success stories and their challenges in delivering physical activity programs and supports for people living with chronic pain. It is also important for us to hear directly from those that experience chronic pain and their significant others (i.e., spouse, partner, family member, friend, etc.) as to how they have successfully remained physically active, or how their pain experience has challenged them to be physically active. We want everyone with chronic pain to have the opportunity to successfully be physically active throughout their entire life!
