Our Bridgers Toastmasters had four members and two guests attend the meeting on September 1, 2026. We are back indoors at the St John's room in the English Language Centre at Global Gathering Place. Our dynamic Robin San Juan was the Toastmaster. Our word of the day "conscientious" was somewhat difficult to pronounce but fittingly described Robin's diligent time management and enthusiastic introductions. Instead of hearing a speech, we asked our Table Topics Master, Lisa, to give two sets of topics to everyone. After hearing nine wonderful mini-speeches by attendees, Terry's speech was voted best table topic. Terry told us how he mistakenly signed a contract in October 1969 to enrol in an airline training course. After failing to make any instalment payments he received collection letters demanding payment. After he reluctantly paid what he owed for the course, Terry diligently studied the course material. Although the course never led to a job, Terry is grateful for learning how to type and fondly recalls attending classes in Atlanta, Georgia. We were happy to see former member, Vic Punia, return as a guest. Another guest came to practise speaking English. He spoke English very well as he answered two table topics questions. James was our quizmaster with very good question to see if we were listening as well as he was. Bridgers Toastmasters Club meets next Tuesday on September 8. You are welcome to attend via Zoom the way James did.

Bridgers Toastmasters had an outdoor meeting on August 25, 2026. Our theme was: Be ahead of the curve, which means to be one of the first people to change to a new idea or way of doing something that later becomes generally popular. Terry was the Toastmaster and also gave a speech explaining Quarterly Income Tax Instalments. Tass was Table Topics Master and timer. Her topics were challenging but fun as we learned a lot about each other. James was General Evaluator and gave a toast. Our next meeting is back indoors at Global Gathering Place on 25th Street on September 1.

During our July 21, 2026 outdoor meeting, four participants—Terry, Tonny, Narges, and Tass—joined in person at the City Hall lectern. The weather was wonderful, and there were almost zero mosquitoes. We enjoyed exploring our theme, "Blind Spot," and incorporating the Word of the Day, "Oblivious."

We shared experiences about discovering our blind spots and moments that shifted our perspectives. For example, Terry shared how enraged he was when he went to England and, for the first time, heard people making fun of Irish stereotypes. That experience revealed how outsiders sometimes perceived his heritage. We also discussed times when we were so oblivious or stuck in our heads that we failed to notice our surroundings.

Tonny gave a speech sharing his goals as our newly elected president. His strong determination and clear vision came through clearly, inspiring us to elevate our own skills as well. His speech reminded us that it takes all of us as members to build a strong club. His message inspired all of us to work together and elevate our skills.

Bridgers Toastmasters had our first outdoor summer meeting beside City Hall near Third Avenue on July 7, 2026. Tass was the Toastmaster, and she evaluated Terry's speech. Since Terry is starting a new Pathway called Visionary Communication, he gave an icebreaker speech called "My Retirement Plans." Everyone received two chances to speak at table topics. Club President Tonny was the timer and General Evaluator. Our theme was "silver lining." In our introductions, we heard how there is always an upside even in the most desperate times in our lives. Our next meeting will be at the same location on July 21.

Bridgers Toastmasters met at GGP-ELC on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. Tass gave an excellent 20-minute professional speech about how she moved to Canada and launched a new business. Tass told us how she learned to set a price on a cake and received guidance from a mentor who had experience operating a Thai restaurant. Our guest, Raheem, was impressed by how Tass gave such a good speech in her second language. Tonny was the speech evaluator and asked quiz questions. Terry was Table Topics Master and General Evaluator. Since GGP-ELC shuts down for much of the next two months, Bridgers' next four meetings will be outdoors in Civic Square beside City Hall on July 7, July 21, August 11, and August 25.

Seven members of Bridgers Toastmasters met on June 2, 2026. We heard Lisa give a level two Pathways speech about what it was like to be a mentee. Her mentor recommended a book called "The Cultural Map" by Erin Myer and gave Lisa the encouragement she needed. Our meeting theme was "The Senses," so Narges gave us table topics related to our senses. Kesha was our grammarian online, counting how many times we used "sentient", the word of the day. Our meeting was educational and fun.

Bridgers Club met on Tuesday, May 26, to hear Kesha's icebreaker speech, in which she told us she turned what some consider weaknesses into her strengths. Her speech was called "My brain has 37 tabs open." Our meeting theme was "moments of silence." Our word of the evening was "luddite." Club president-elect Tonny chaired the meeting. He asked us to give the name of our favourite speaker during our introductions. As a first-time Table Topics Master, Narges posed thought-provoking questions about silence and listening.
