Kate Gillis (MA’24) made history when she was awarded the inaugural Gabriel Dumont Graduate Scholarship in Métis Studies during her time as a graduate student.

The College of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is proud to celebrate Dr. Mariana dos Santos Ribeiro (PhD), College of Nursing, on receiving the Spring 2026 Governor General’s Gold Medal.

Dr. Ribeiro’s research shines a compassionate light on the experiences of older adults living with dementia and the families who support them. Her work explores not only the challenges associated with dementia, but also the meaningful ways families and communities help individuals adapt, stay connected, and continue to belong.

At Spring Convocation yesterday, Dr. Ribeiro was presented with the Gold Medal by the Lieutenant Governor, Her Honour the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre.
