Don't fail fast -- fail mindfully We celebrate bold entrepreneurs whose ingenuity led them to success, but what happens to those who fail? Far too often, they bury their stories out of shame or humiliation -- and miss out on a valuable opportunity for growth, says author and entrepreneur Leticia Gasca. In this thoughtful talk, Gasca...

Why this hospital treats its local neighborhood like a patient 08/17/2018

Excellent piece on an amazing hospital that reached outside its walls. We happen to have personal experience at Nationwide and can say that the quality inside the walls is stellar as well!

Why this hospital treats its local neighborhood like a patient The doctors at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, realized that they couldn’t make progress with their patients’ health until they improved their lives outside the hospital, as well.

Every number has a story; every story has a number

This is amazingly disturbing

I need to reread this. It seems very interesting and also very important

Frank Harrell on Twitter “Optimum decision making in presence of uncertainty comes from probabilistic thinking. The relevant probs. are of a predictive nature: P(the unknown | the known). Thresholds are not helpful and are completely dependent on the utility/cost/loss function. https://t.co/Z4UNlyWZPx”

A made-in-Ottawa solution to get around long wait times to see medical specialists 08/02/2018

Excellent innovation! Very reminiscent of South Central Foundation and their goal of specialty access in 5 min (via phone consult) - nice pursuit of 2nd order vs 1st order change. One question that wasn't addressed is that of remuneration of the physician time for those in a FFS model. Anyone in Ontario know how that is addressed?

A made-in-Ottawa solution to get around long wait times to see medical specialists About a decade ago, two Ottawa doctors were puzzling over a common problem for family physicians trying to get answers for their patients: long waits for consultations with a specialist.Patients so…

Dr. Brian Goldman on Twitter 07/06/2018

This. Is. My. Life. We don’t have hearing loss hoops, but we have plenty of other hoops. The health system and government need to seriously reckon with the burden of care, i.e. the burden placed on people to receive care or service.

Dr. Brian Goldman on Twitter “Special needs disability parenting BLOOM: How 'there's a new rule' broke me https://t.co/PpFgjpDiNT Just a tiny taste of what people with disabilities and their parents must go through to qualify for things that are supposed to be provided.”
