📢 deprescribing.org’s NEW evidence-based guideline for statin deprescribing is here!

org’s newest addition to their suite of deprescribing guidelines is now freely available on their website. Developed using a rigorous evidence-based approach, this work equips clinicians to make informed and shared decisions with their older patients about whether to continue or stop a statin.

Their guideline applies to adults aged 65+ who are taking statins with no side effects.

❗️Their Recommendations:
1️⃣ They suggest deprescribing statins for older adults at end-of-life.
2️⃣ They suggest continuing statins for those NOT at end-of-life.

⚠️These are conditional recommendations meaning that the best choice depends on patient/carer preferences. Clinicians should talk to patients/carers about the right choice for them.

Putting Recommendations into Practice
☝️🤓💡They provide advice on how to talk to patients/carers in their guideline and algorithm, along with more tips and info to help you put these recommendations into practice

To add to your statin deprescribing toolkit:
✅ 2-page algorithm summary and 3 short whiteboard videos
✅ Patient education pamphlet
✅ Plain language summary
✅ Shared decision-making tools to support effective deprescribing discussions
