Tansi/Hau,
I am writing this letter to inform the ITEP students, community, and family that I am resigning from my position as Director of ITEP effective August 15, 2020. I started my journey with the Indian Teacher Education Program in 2001 as a student when the ITEP staff consisted of Orest Murawsky, Yvette Arcand, Louise Legare, Mike Cottrell and Rita LaPlante. They were a staff of game changers dedicated to First Nation student success.
I would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Cecil King who in 1972 unapologetically helped to create space for Indians to have access to a Bachelor of Education without compromising their indigeneity. It was his strength that guided my leadership in ITEP, I merely followed the trail he created.
ITEP is not one person, it’s strength has always been the family that is created through the relationships we build in our program. That’s what College of Education can never understand about ITEP, that wakotwowin runs deeper than a student number, or budget line.
I wish to thank the ITEP staff and students for allowing me to serve as your leader these last six years. I have grown to appreciate how resilient ITEP students are, and how tireless ITEP staff work to support them. Resigning from the College of Education was an easy decision, resigning from ITEP was not. The staff and students in our program are the wishes and dreams of our ancestors coming to life.
In closing I ask you to continue to speak your truth, never apologize for standing up against racism, always challenge the status quo and know that your strength in post-secondary does not come from the Education Library it is your continued connection to decolonizing your journey.
Chris Scribe.

The Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP) is a four year education program designed for First Nations students interested in obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree. The main purpose and goal of ITEP is to prepare First Nations teachers who will be able to respond to the challenges associated with the ever-changing educational needs and objectives of students in our school systems.
Tansi,
On behalf of the Indian Teacher Education Program we regret to inform you that the scheduled ITEP Grad 2020 on August 6, 2020 is cancelled until further notice. With the rise of COVID-19 in our province we do not want to put our alumni or the children that you will be teaching in the fall at risk. Although this pandemic has paused our celebration this year, please know that you will be added to the 2021 ITEP grad celebration list as a combined celebration for all 2020 and 2021 ITEP grads.
ITEP staff will be setting up an informal BBQ and gathering at Blackstrap Lake Regional Park where we can gather and celebrate (social distance rules apply) on Thursday August 6, 2020 @ 12:00PM - 4:00PM.
For more information please contact the ITEP team at [email protected].
Ekosi,
Chris Scribe

Tansi, Hau, Anin, Edlane te,
I know that this pandemic has thrown us a curve ball this year especially in regards to the ITEP Grad and USASK Convocation. Although I am disappointed that we cannot congratulate you in person until August 2020, please do not feel discouraged. You have accomplished a milestone that our ancestors wished for. Please know that ITEP will always be here to support, encourage and push you to continue to do your very best for our children.
Although our ITEP Graduation and Honouring has been postponed until August 2020, we would like to take this time to celebrate our new ITEP Alumni with a Virtual Indigenous Giveaway! Think Indigenous, ITEP Staff and ITEP Alumni have come together to provide enough prizes for every graduate this year.
How it works:
Each ITEP graduate will be assigned a number and placed into a draw barrel.
One by One names will be drawn.
Each name drawn will receive a gift.
We will draw 15 names per day until there are no more names!
Draw will happen everyday at 2PM live on the ITEP Student FB page. If you don’t have Facebook no worries you will still be entered!
Tuesday June 2, 2020
Draw Time 2PM CST
First 15 names will be drawn
All prizes have been donated from ITEP Staff, Alumni and Think Indigenous!
