Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre

Staff of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre (SICC) were honored to attend the Treaty Six Education Council (TSEC) Treaty, Language and Culture (TLC) Showcase on June 4–5, 2026, that was held at the Exhibition Grounds in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. This meaningful two-day gathering brought together students, educators, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to celebrate Indigenous language, culture, and land-based learning through teachings, activities, and shared experiences.

We believe the library belongs to everyone and everyone belongs at the library.

We honour the 2SLGBTQI+ relatives, and the enduring strength, wisdom, and love they carry. This month invites us to learn together, amplify community voices, and recognize teachings that have long been present across many First Nations.

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada.

This month recognizes the histories, cultures, languages, resilience, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across the country. Established in 2009 and later renamed National Indigenous History Month in 2017, June is a time to learn, reflect, and celebrate Indigenous peoples and communities.

Indigenous history is not separate from Canada’s story — it is a foundational part of it. Understanding this shared history helps strengthen relationships, challenge misconceptions, and support reconciliation for future generations.

Throughout Saskatchewan, communities will host powwows, cultural celebrations, language gatherings, feasts, and educational events that are open to everyone. Attending local events, listening to Elders and Knowledge Keepers, supporting Indigenous artists and businesses, and learning about the histories of the land are meaningful ways to participate this month.

The Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre continues to support the preservation and sharing of First Nations languages, cultures, and teachings for future generations. This June, we acknowledge the 150th Commemoration of Treaty 6 and encourage everyone to come together to honour, to learn, and to celebrate our collective history because Saskatchewan is our home, and the land does not belong to us, we belong to the land.

Celebrating 50 years of Indigenous-led Post Secondary Education. Congratulations FNUniv!

Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre (SICC) was pleased to attend and celebrate the 50th anniversary commemoration the First Nations University of Canada at the Saskatoon Campus. It was a wonderful event attended by FNUniv staff, alumni and community.

For five decades, First Nations University of Canada has demonstrated leadership in advancing First Nations education by bridging language, culture, knowledge, and high-quality learning that strengthens our communities and supports the success of students across Saskatchewan and beyond.

Due to overwhelming demand, registration for the Teaching Sacred Languages workshop is now full.

We are incredibly grateful for the strong response and interest in this workshop. All available spots have now been filled.

A waitlist is now open in case any spaces become available. Those who join the waitlist will also receive the opportunity to register one day in advance before registration opens to the public for future Teaching Sacred Languages workshops.

In First Nations teachings, motherhood is grounded in strength, balance, and relationship - with children, family, and the land. These teachings remind us that every mother deserves to be supported with dignity, respect, and care.

Today, we lift up the role of mothers as teachers, leaders, and life-givers.
