Fill the weave. After the canvas goes on it has to be made water tight. The filler is applied, spread evenly and left to dry. Like fibreglass you're better to stop while you're ahead, if you continue to work the filler you'll just make a mess of it which means more sanding later to smooth it out.

Huron restoration. The canvas goes on, stretched tight with a come along and tacked in place. One 5/8" canoe tack in each rib along the gunwale. Then the stems are buttoned up.

Thought I'd try something new, I made this bearded viking axe from a ferriers rasp. This may have been a little ambitious for my first blacksmithing project but I think it turned out ok, it's sharp enough to shave with.
