The flight deck isn't the only place pilots learn.

Back in March, our iATPL students traded the flight deck for the Saskatchewan wilderness as part of their winter survival training. Through hands-on exercises, teamwork, and problem-solving, they gained valuable skills that reinforce an important lesson in aviation: always be prepared.

Because becoming a professional pilot is about more than flying. It's about having the knowledge, confidence, and resilience to handle the unexpected.

Congratulations to Christian Sandypoint-Toutsaint and Reina Roberts on earning their Commercial Pilot Licences through the Dziret'ái Pilot Training Program.

Dziret'ái, a Dene word meaning "flying" or "soaring," represents opportunity, growth, and creating pathways into aviation for northern and Indigenous communities.

This milestone reflects countless hours of hard work, determination, and commitment. Christian and Reina have shown what is possible when talent, dedication, and opportunity come together.

We are proud to have supported their flight training journey and are grateful to be part of a program that helps create meaningful opportunities for future aviators. Thank you to the partners, communities, and supporters whose shared vision continues to open doors and inspire the next generation of pilots across northern Saskatchewan.

Welcome Danno to the crew ✈️

Danno is joining us part-time, instructing on our Cessna fleet and in the RPAS (drone) world, bringing a seriously cool mix of experience with him.

He actually started his flight training right here at Mitchinson on his 16th birthday (talk about commitment), and has since built an incredible career across the Americas flying everything from airplanes and helicopters to gliders and uncrewed systems.

Now a dual-rated FAA and Transport Canada multi-engine IFR commercial pilot, Danno also brings deep expertise in RPAS as a Level 1 Complex pilot, instructor, and flight test invigilator.

Outside the flight deck, you’ll find him rock climbing, growing his own teas and hot peppers, or giving back with the local gliding community.
