We shared exciting news with our preschoolers, that our caterpillars finally arrived!
We had a discussion around our caterpillars, how we need to take care of them, what is that stuff in the cup with them, when and how they will turn into butterflies, what some names we could give them and much more.
The children were then invited to come to the table in small groups to observe the caterpillars and draw what they saw. The children were very observant, getting nice and close to see what the caterpillars looked like, that some were big, and others were small, what colours they were, etc.
We are all very excited to watch our caterpillars grow and change into beautiful butterflies!

Summer party!
The children at Willowgrove Preston Early Learning are excited to have their families join us in some special, summer activities outside.
We decorated pots and birdhouses, planted pretty flowers, planted with seeds, played with bubbles and played in the sand!
We enjoyed iced tea and had fun with our daycare friends and families!

Wide Open Puppet Show!
The children at Willowgrove were so excited to have a puppet show put on for them, that they sat patiently for the puppet stage to be set up.
We had lots of laughs, and the children were very excited to meet the puppets afterward.
We encourage children to express their emotions alongside the puppets. Puppet activities are great for children to develop stronger language skills, social awareness, concentration, and self-regulation skills.
We even had the opportunity to meet the funny puppets afterward!

Eggs!
We are experimenting with hard-boiled eggs, water, and natural ingredients to see how they would color the eggs.
We boiled tea bags, turmeric, red onion skins, yellow onion skins, and beets in water to create 5 different colors to dye the eggs.
Once the water cooled down, the children were invited to add the eggs to the different colors, stirring to coat them.
We left the eggs in the water overnight then, the next morning the children looked to see how the colors turned out.
The turmeric created the brightest color!
The Sunshines were then invited to peel their own-colored egg of their choosing for a morning snack.
Later we tried another egg and color experiment. The children were given cool whip to spread on a dish, and pipettes to drop food coloring on top.
Once they swirled their colors and liked what colors they had created, they then rolled their egg in the color.
We let it sit for a few minutes then wiped off the cool whip revealing the beautiful colors they made.

Cooking with children!
We believe that cooking/baking with children is very important because it gives the children an opportunity to feel capable and competent in themselves.
It is a great way to introduce basic math skills, boost a child’s confidence, allows the children to explore all their senses and encourage children to try new foods and ingredients.
The preschool class enjoys taking turns measuring, pouring, and mixing.
While waiting for their turn, they are learning about all the new terminology that goes along with cooking.
After they get to enjoy their yummy, sugar cookies!

Hot Chocolate Party!
The Sunshine Preschool Room invited the rest of the Centre to have a hot chocolate party, they sat nicely at a table and had hot chocolate and crackers as a snack.
The children socialized with each other while enjoying their yummy hot chocolate.
The older children were asked to model good table manners for the younger children and to share funny stories with each other.
This was a great opportunity to allow the children to learn, grow and develop in social interactions.
