On Friday, May 29, École Saint Luke came together for the Raising of the Treaty Flag, a meaningful opportunity to reflect on our shared responsibilities and relationships within Treaty 6 Territory.
We extend our gratitude to Fr. Michael Magaji and Elder John Merasty for the blessing of the flag. Students from Mr. Pek's and Mr. Ward's classes shared thoughtful reflections on the importance of honouring treaties and understanding their continued significance today.
The event concluded with the unveiling of a collaborative art installation created by students alongside our Artist in Residence, Judy Cook and elder, Nancy Greyeyes. The project began with the preparation of an elk hide into rawhide, providing students with a deeper understanding of traditional knowledge and processes. Students then developed the concept for a mural that captures their collective insight and connections to Treaty 6 Territory.

Hands-on learning and rich cultural teachings! 🪶✨
Students from École St. Gerard recently had the incredible opportunity to learn about the traditional arts of hide stretching and hide scraping. Guided by Knowledge Keeper Nancy Greyeyes, students didn't just learn a skill—they immersed themselves in deep Cree perspectives on our interconnectedness with the land and animals. 🌾🦌
Thank you, Nancy, for sharing your wisdom, stories, and time with our students. It was an unforgettable experience that brought learning to life!
