So… why do we say “me gusta” instead of “yo gusto”?

Because in Spanish, the focus is not really on who likes something, but on what is pleasing to someone.

👉 Me gusta el café.
Literally: Coffee is pleasing to me.

It might look different from English, but once you see the perspective, it actually makes perfect sense ✨

Spanish just likes to look at things from another angle😉

Colombians have a funny way of talking… we use NUMBERS for many things😂🇨🇴

And if you translate these expressions literally, they make absolutely NO sense:

👉 “En un dos por tres” = “in a two times three” → in no time
👉 “Me volví un ocho” = “I became an eight” → I got all confused / overwhelmed
👉 “No tengo ni cinco” = “I don’t even have five” → I have no money 💸

So if a Colombian starts throwing numbers at you, do the math as Colombians would do it😂

Spanish starts making so much more sense when you stop translating every word and start looking for the logic behind it. 👀

Take DE, for example.
At its core, you can think of it as a point of origin: where something comes from, where it belongs, or what it’s connected to.

🍲 sopa de verduras → vegetable soup
🥭 árbol de mango → mango tree
🇨🇴 soy de Colombia → I’m from Colombia

Once you start seeing the relationship instead of looking for a one-to-one translation, Spanish becomes way less random—and way more logical ✨

Don’t just memorize Spanish. Learn to see it. 😜

🔥One question my students ask me ALL the time: what’s the difference between ir and irse? 👀

And yes… ‘voy’(ir) and ‘me voy’(irse) can mean different things.
