BREAKING NEWS! Mount Erskine purchase completed!
Salt Spring Island Trail is excited to announce that the Mount Erskine connector trail has been successfully purchased. The approximately 1-acre parcel, including the historic trail, has now been returned to crown land for eventual inclusion in Mt Erskine Provincial Park.
Thank you to the many Islanders who donated their time, money and sweat to make this a reality!

đź”´Salt Spring Island woman goes missing after running errandsđź”´
Salt Spring Island RCMP say a woman who left her home on the island yesterday afternoon to run errands failed to return. Her family is concerned for her wellbeing.

Salt Spring RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in helping locate a missing person.
Sinnika Gay Elliot was reported missing May 12 at 2:15 p.m. after police say she went out to do some errands. She hasn’t been seen since according to police.
Search and Rescue crews began searching for Elliot at around 9:30 p.m. according to police. Authorities say that her vehicle was found on Juniper Place Road but Elliot was nowhere to be found.
Police and her family say they’re concerned for her well-being.
Elliot is described as being 5’3″ with a slim build and short, brown hair. Police say she was wearing a red sweater, jeans and brown boots when she was last seen.
Police are asking anyone with information on her whereabouts to call Salt Spring RCMP at (250)-537-5555.

The Salt Spring Island Trail and Nature Club has been fundraising for “The Missing Link”—a trail connection on Mt. Erskine. It’s a crucial link in an almost 6 kilometre trail from Collins Road to Toynbee Road. The missing link also contains some terrific viewpoints surrounded by majestic trees that make excellent picnic spots.
With all of the economic problems, islanders have been very generous to ensure our trail connection. With the money received and promised, we’re around 60 percent there. But we have only one more month to raise another approximately $60,000 to buy this piece of land. That’s a bit like climbing up to the top of Mt. Erskine: the first part is always easier than the last.
Many of you reading this article already use the trails on Mt. Erskine. I regularly count more than a dozen cars parked at the end of Trustees Trail, and many others access the trails from Collins and Toynbee Roads. If each of you who use these trails were to donate even $25, we’d easily reach our goal of buying the land, and you’d get a tax receipt too.
Every donation counts, especially when fundraisers are trying to convince larger donors like foundations that their project has wide support.
