Hillcrest Elementary PAC

We believe a strong school community starts with all of us. Parent volunteers are elected to the executive to serve one term from October to September.

Our PAC supports students, families and school initiatives, creates opportunities for parent involvement, raises funds for meaningful needs and helps ensure parent voices are heard. All parents and guardians of students at Hillcrest are members of the PAC and are welcome at the monthly PAC meeting to contribute their ideas and involvement. Most positions are shared. The purpose of the PAC is to su

pport, encourage and improve the quality of education and the well being of students at Hillcrest Elementary School. To advise the principal and staff on parents’ views on any matter relating to the school – programs, policies, plans and activities. To communicate with parents and to promote cooperation between the home and school in providing for the education of children. To assist parents in accessing the system and to provide advocacy support for individual children and their parents. To organize PAC activities and school events
To contribute to the effectiveness of the school by promoting the involvement of parents and other community members. Hillcrest School Planning Council
Each school in the province is required by law to have a School Planning Council (SPC). The SPC is an advisory body and its major responsibility is to consult with the school community in developing, monitoring and reviewing school plans for improving student achievement. Each School Council consists of one elected teacher representative, three elected parent representatives (one of whom must be on the PAC Executive) and the principal. The council meets a minimum of three times per year. Hillcrest Parent Partners
1. Participating on the Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
Attend monthly PAC meetings
Relay important information to parents in each division via e-mail or phone
Coordinate parent volunteers from each division to assist with school wide events
2. Supporting the Teacher and the Classroom
At the request of the teacher, parent partners assist to:
Organize drivers for class field trips
Coordinate parents to assist with activities such as class parties, listening to students read, etc. There is a maximum of two parent partners per class and volunteers are taken on a first come, first served basis. Volunteers must have access to, and be comfortable working on a computer as most PAC correspondence will be distributed via e-mail. PAC Executive

On Monday, June 8th at lunchtime we would like to thank Mrs. Menzie’s Division 1 class for hosting a pop-up lemonade stand in support of Joanna‘s House! 🍋They will be make their way around the school at lunch time, offering lemonade by donation. If you would like to support this, please send your child(ren) with a donation (suggestion of $1 or more) so they can enjoy a glass of lemonade and know they are helping to make life a little easier for families and children needing to stay at JoeAnna's House.

We hope that all of you who came out to the Hillcrest Spring Carnival had a wonderful time, last night! We are thankful & proud to say we raised $5,141.39 🎉 This wouldn’t have been possible without the enormous support of the community, 150+ volunteers, staff, and our PAC Executive - so thank you all!

Raffle basket and prize names have been drawn, so please keep an eye on your emails for those announcements if you have won. The raffle baskets will need a parent/guardian for pick up due to their sheer size!

Tomorrow is the day! Please take note of some information about the evening of Carnival. We are also still looking for volunteers to run some stations. Without help, the soda shoppe will be delayed in opening and the bouncy castles will not be able to be inflated and used as they require adult supervision to ensure safety.
