On Friday, June 14, the Indigenous Education Department hosted a luncheon to honour the work of SD83 Knowledge Keepers.

The luncheon provided a wonderful opportunity for all to connect, share a meal, update Knowledge Keeper photos and contracts for the next school year and also have some much needed fun playing a party game.

A special thank you to Ava Franklin for sharing her photography talent and to all of our wonderful Knowledge Keepers willing to share time and knowledge with SD83 staff and students.

Congratulations to the 2024 Indigenous Graduates of SD83!

Family, friends, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, Band Chiefs and Councils, community members and SD83 staff gathered together on May 29 at the beautiful Splatsin Centre to celebrate the hard work, resilience and determination of 120 Indigenous graduates.

The Indigenous Ed. department drum team, lead by Knowledge Keeper Dodie Jones, performed the welcome song as the Elders and community members joined the graduates in a procession.

Knowledge Keepers, Chief and Council, and the Board of Education shared opening words of gratitude and welcome.

Valedictorians from each school bravely and eloquently shared their school memories, meaningful moments, gratitude to school staff, community members and their families for supporting them on their learning journey, while bidding their classmates and friends farewell.

Masters of Ceremony, Chelsey Hill and Tori Jewell, kept the event organized, the attendees entertained and graduates nerves in check.

Staff from the Indigenous Education Team and schools of AL Fortune, Eagle River Secondary, Salmon Arm Secondary, Salmon Arm Storefront and Pleasant Valley Secondary welcomed each graduate across the stage to honour their successes and to wish them well with future goals and dreams.

The night was beautifully wrapped up with passing of the Eagle staff and the Honour Song.
