Big ideas. Tight timelines. Real-world experience. đź’ˇ

NCC welcomed 98 high school students from nine high schools across Northwest Iowa to campus Tuesday morning as part of the Center for Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) program.

During their Design Sprint pitches, students presented concepts for redesigned Siouxland or War Eagle Conference logos to a panel of 10 business and marketing professionals. The challenge gave students hands-on experience in creative problem-solving, collaboration, professional presentations and receiving constructive feedback.

It was exciting to see these students step outside their comfort zones, take action and bridge the gap between the classroom and the professional world!

Last month, hosted its spring Manufacturing Summit. It was so intriguing to hear their perspective on how the industry is expected to evolve and change over the next 3-5 years. We appreciate the continued investment they've made in our students, school districts, and communities. Thank you for your ongoing commitment to building strong partnerships between education and industry — creating opportunities that benefit students and employers alike!

In recent years, five students have participated in Career Experiences or Registered Apprenticeship Programs with Interstates, leading to high-skilled, high-demand jobs at graduation. It was great to see current participant Chris engaged and learning during our visit!

Our MOC-FV CAPS team of Ivan, Estela, and Brennan has had the privilege of working with Vi Bella in Sioux Center. They provide jobs for the less fortunate by selling handmade art and jewelry made by people in Haiti. Vi Bella is doing a store remodel right now, making the store more of an interactive experience for all ages. CAPS has been able to help with this by designing a kids' activity in the form of a passport. When they are in the store, kids can take their “passport” to different stations in the store. At each station, the kids get to answer questions and get a stamp when they answer the questions for that station. This allows them to learn more about Vi Bella while having some fun. Come experience the new Vi Bella when it reopens soon!

Many thanks to Mrs. Koenig for her efforts in planning this spring's Junior/Sophomore Parent and Student "Future Focus Night" last week. What a great night to hear about the many unique opportunities our students have to prepare NOW for future opportunities!

A special thanks to CAPS Associates Owen Vander Pol, Elin Van Der Werff, and Blake Aalbers for sharing their experiences in our CAPS Program. Each of them noted that greater clarity, confidence, and connections with career opportunities were their greatest takeaways!

What a joy to highlight the NW Iowa Playmakers Camp at MOC-Floyd Valley High School last month! Over 85 participants and 40+ volunteers united for a day of celebration that truly made an impact.

Special thanks to the MOC-FV CAPS Team— Blake Aalbers, Teylor Paulsen, and Nate Miller—for their efforts to organize and lead-up this event. We're also grateful for our ongoing partnership with The Playmakers and Coach "Roz" for their continued investment in our community!

Additional thanks to the team from Staples Promotional Products -- Orange City operations -- for serving as mentors for our participants and serving all attendees lunch!

The camp created a space where people of all abilities discovered their strengths while building meaningful connections. Throughout the day, we witnessed moments of teamwork, patience, and encouragement as participants lifted each other up.

New friendships formed, confidence grew, and our community bonds strengthened. The Playmakers Camp exemplifies our commitment to fostering character development and inclusive relationships that will continue to enrich our communities for years to come!

Many thanks to Sandy Groom-Meeks for meeting with our Siouxland CAPS Central Cohort associates and leading an incredible Visual Design Seminar! 🎨✨

Our associates gained valuable insights that will enhance their work with clients and community partners. I'm looking forward to seeing these design elements incorporated into presentations, pitches, websites, social media content, and marketing materials!

Beyond the design principles, Sandy shared some wisdom about feedback: "We all need to be able to receive AND give critical feedback. This provides a way for all people to grow!" Such an important lesson for our aspiring professionals.

Always fun to connect with our friends from Sioux Center CAPS and West Sioux CAPS!
