Mac Bites it's an educational campaign created by four McGill Macdonald students in the late fall of 2016. We will be putting on five workshops over the course of the winter semester 2017 that include speaker presentations, documentaries, and taste-testing - all to start raising awareness about insect consumption as a sustainable food source. Our goal is to increase awareness about the concerns of our current protein industry in tandem with knowledge about a growing alternative market. We believe people should be starting to look more critically into a possible future of insect consumption and the role it may have for food security.

Although there is still a stigma attached to eating insects in North America, MacDonald campus provides an excellent starting point to change this stigma, with the potential to eventually transfer the movement downtown and beyond!

Hey Guys! Cricket powder available from President Choice!

Voilà, c'est officiel : les insectes sont devenus "mainstream". 🐜🐜 Je viens de trouver ça chez Provigo. De la poudre de grillons vendue comme un supplément de protéines. Qu'est-ce que vous en pensez? 😅

Hello guys!

"You have until tomorrow to vote YES to the Sustainability Projects Fund at https://involvement.mcgill.ca/submitter/election/start/11199
The SPF aims to promote a culture of sustainability on both McGill University campuses. The largest campus sustainability fund of its kind in North America, the SPF has allocated almost $6 million in funding since its establishment in 2010, and has approved 170+ projects, which have yielded dramatic and lasting improvements to the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of McGill’s sustainability performance. The SPF also creates a platform for students and staff to work together (87% of all projects are collaborations between students and staff), and has generated hundreds of volunteering and job opportunities for students.
Projects that were funded by the SPF include
- The Macdonald Campus Student-run Ecological Gardens (MSEG)
- Farm to School Project
- Out of the Gardens Project
- Macdonald Showcase Permaculture Garden
- Ag-Connect
Make sure to vote YES so that this important initiative can continue!
